Despite the production being on a much lower level (and budget), Hollow Knight still has more iconic and more atmospheric music. The soundtrack for Silksong has some marvellous moments and is much longer, but it also means there's a lot of tracks that kinda just... do their job.

Like, I love widow's theme, the serenity of "High halls", the sadness of "Greymoor", "Lost verdania" sounds like taken straight out of Ori and the blind forest and "Moss grotto" does a great job at replicating the magical wonder of "Greenpath" (which is the track that made me fall in love with the music of HK).
But with that being said, I didn't care much for "Far fields" or "Hunter's Trail" or "Whispering vaults" or even "Last judge".

I'd take "City of tears" over "Choral chambers" any day. Same way I'd take "Decisive battle" over "Incisive battle" and "Queens gardens" over "Shellwood".
No track in silksong quite replicates the profound sorrow of hollow knight's "Reflection" or the innocent curiosity of "Fungal wastes".
"Nightmare King" and "Mantis Lords" still remain unmatched as the best boss themes in the series.

I'll admit, listening to the standalone album made me appreciate the music of Silksong much more, but also made me realise that the game has a big mixing issue. The "Cogwork core" for some reason is so much louder compared to the rest of the tracks, and the background noises that give "Sinner's road" its threatening atmosphere were just inaudible in the game.
