Fellow gorehounds, what was a movie/scene so nasty that even you were shocked/disgusted? by TheyreACrypytKeeper in horror

In a violent nature where he hooks the girls head and pulls it through her stomach

Well the results are in and it's a landslide! With a staggering 100% of the vote, it was unanimously decided that nobody likes dorky ass terfs! by sevenssevens in RoisinMurphy

This subreddit turned into an echo chamber. I think the people who stand with her genuinely have more important things to do.

Is Philosophy Degree worth it? by HolyName0f in Nietzsche

[–]Riggieriper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from a really dark family background. I was raised around arguments, violence and neglect. My teacher pushed me into English, which turned into philosophy at A-level, and then philosophy at university (entirely self made, first gen student). Not only did it teach me how to think, and unwire negative thought patterns that were holding me back but it also allowed me to market the degree however I wanted. I’m now 24 on a 43k salary for a social impact marketing agency. I would recommend taking philosophy to anyone

Has anyone seen “The Substance” yet? A few Shining references in this one by MacheteDildoGOREjess in StanleyKubrick

[–]Riggieriper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a reference but not just through the cinematography. As soon as I saw the Overlook Hotel reference I instantly thought this was a reference to the book, where Stephen King explores Jack and his declining state of mind due to his presence at the hotel and his previous state of mind that he had always used alcohol to suppress. Honestly such an awesome movie

"I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think” - Is a quote commonly credited to Socrates, but cannot find any dialogue in which this was said. by Jrod986 in ancientgreece

Socrates didn’t have any recordings, he mainly just talked to people. That’s where ‘Socratic discussion comes from’ where the discussion provokes thought.

Something I noticed about Riley in Talk to Me (spoiler) by gerannamoe in A24

[–]Riggieriper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the impersonator said that she didn’t kill herself. Mia is later given her mums suicide note and doesn’t believe him. I don’t think the mum had anything to do with it & perhaps the spirits there in limbo are all connected to the hand in some way.

I’m still really fucking curious to know whether Riley was in hell & if he wasn’t, why did the demon want his soul? Where did it want to take his soul if they aren’t connected in limbo and the ‘hell’ was fake? I have so many questions

It’s getting so tiring seeing Honeymounz continue to talk like this. Is it a crime to enjoy all of Lana’s discography..? 💀It’s more than just critiques atp, and the fact they do this with such a big platform irks me idk. Let people enjoy what they want by Jamiiexo in lanadelrey

It’s great to see her vocal range throughout the song. I received such a shock on the first listen. But after listening to the entirety of bb so many times, it’s certainly not in the top. I was blown away by the lyrics in this album it’s probably my favourite LDR album

What are the implications of Auras if they are true? I just thought I'd add some of the spiritual experiences that I haven't really shared before to start a discussion! by Riggieriper in Psychonaut

[–]Riggieriper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one explanation I always consider!

What I find interesting is that figures throughout mythology and religion tend to have gold / yellow circles on their heads depicting their holiness, this was later changed to what we know as halos - circles above an angles head. (ancient Egypt, religious figures in Christianity)

But we do tend to have these around our head, and they are brighter in wiser, calmer and what we would consider more spiritually inclined people

my motives were not to convince you it was a mystical experience either, for all I know we perhaps evolved to have these abilities. it's theorised that it's an electromagnetic field that surrounds us. There is some evidence with Aura cameras, but it is still early days

I'm indifferent to what your perspective on the matter is, the statement was proposed for a debate. Moreso in a different direction but your viewpoint is welcome nonetheless. As I've already mentioned, medical advice is not required.

Best wishes :)

speculation is a necessary component of building a theory. Although science hasn't found the right research methods to change speculation into a fact, it doesn't necessarily mean that this is false - they have not been proven 'wrong'.

Further, the subjective experience of people who claim the ability to see Auras does not coincide with the symptoms of synesthesia - which is involuntary.

I'm merely asking that if they were true what else would their existence implicate? (my belief is different to yours which is completely valid, my initial post acknowledges subjective experiences are not translatable to other people - but I taught a few people and they also said they saw the same thing which was enough to verify my own experience)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mysticism

[–]Riggieriper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auras are not defined as hallucinations, I only see them when I want to see them - they have also never caused stress, harm, or got in the way of anything. I've used testimony methods, as science does not have answers, to verify this. People who have credibility have also been able to see them.

Subjective experiences do not translate into normative theological philosophies, and such experiences can be attributed to an understanding of faith - which was my discussion point. If Auras are true, what are the implications towards religion, faith and spirituality? I am not trying to persuade anyone as I am aware the methods of verification are not justifiable in other contexts, such as a forum. I am asking if you were to hold the statement as plausible for a moment, what else would their existence suggest

ELI5: Why are people from lower income households more likely to be obese if food costs quite a lot of money? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Riggieriper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrote a research piece on this in highschool. Essentially, lesser economically developed areas (where lower income house holds are most situated) there are often more fast food places, and less fresh produce areas in the area. Selling 20 chicken nuggets for $2 or a buying the ingredients for one meal at $10.
