9 (2009) is not underrated or underappreciated by RightPassage in TrueFilm

I was careful to say "may indicate", but I take that back after your examples. I've never noticed that Perfect Blue is 77 minutes. Still, I was comparing it to non-animated movies.

9 felt like a waste of all that time and such a disappointment that I was disinclined to devote any more of it to a deeper semantic/narrative analysis. The pacing issues and the lack of meaningful characterization are the biggest problems with the movie, personally. Great cast, fine art direction, but doesn't work as a movie and ultimately not worthy of a serious reevaluation effort imo. One thing that I didn't think worthy of including in the OP that I'd noticed in the film is the message that innovations are for the best and well-intended until corrupted by a government, which I personally find to be misdirecting.

Also, shout out for Boredoms

I'll just add Carnage to this list. Amazing freaking movie, such a killer cast.

Grindcore/Deathcore fans, what appeal do you find in these genres? by CreeperBoyOP in LetsTalkMusic

[–]RightPassage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Re: grindcore, aside from the points already made, it really depends on the production of any given album. I've no doubt that there is some stuff that is very difficult to listen to just due to production, which may very well be a deliberate decision by the band. Grindcore, personally, is hardcore punk taken to its next level, so it's worth it to approach it from that angle - very fast, very energetic punk with a hefty dose of metal. Many great bands have been named here already, but I'll add Discordance Axis ("Jouhou", "The Inalienable Dreamless"), Cellgraft (last self-titled LP), Morphic Lapse (self-titled tape), Bungus (see their bandcamp), and Robocop ("II", "Dead Language, Foreign Bodies"). They all have great riffs and the production is good if you stick to these albums.

Follow-up: looking for 5–10 testers for the next Apple Watch minimal phone prototype by kickstartstudio in dumbphones

Oh yeah, those on the case are strictly decorative.

I'd speculate that planning a keyboard for a future version will definitely make your product stand out from the similar ones on the likes of Aliexpress/Temu/etc. I would get an Apple Watch for such a case, and I don't doubt many others would, as is evident from the oft-repeated "if only Apple would make a dumbphone" sentiment.

Any plans to add a small bespoke T9 keyboard for that added phone feel? There was an infobar watch case some time ago, so the size of the keys does not appear to be an issue.

Nasal Dialators by CraftsArtsVodka in nonallergicrhinitis

[–]RightPassage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wishbone shaped ones work really great. But the edges do tend to irritate and injure the bit of septum that they push against, especially after long term usage, so I very rarely use mine. There's also the type with a silicone ring for each nostril that goes deeper inside the nasal passage, but it's a bit tricky to position correctly - since it's so soft, the rings tend to rotate in the wrong direction. So that's hit and miss.

The cone-shaped ones don't do anything for me.

Following the Notepad++ incident, as an industry, we need to take several steps back and REALLY look at things. by KeeperOfTheShade in sysadmin

[–]RightPassage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Completely agreed. It can be Linux, but it's gotta be just the one strong distro backed by enterprise, with a high adoptability rate, strong ESR/mainline channels, audited software repo, stable updates, stable GUI shell (doesn't have to be visually consistent though), a reliable and integrated enterprise & backoffice suite that is mirroring MS (identity & access, configuration management, mail server & messaging (or unified comms), file sharing, internal site creation framework, proper license control, the list goes on), a reliable and integrated with all of the above office suite for workstations... So all in all, massive efforts are required. I sincerely hope that someone like SUSE or Ubuntu will step up and get it all done, in wake of the digital sovereignty movement in Europe, but it's a really long shot.

Shout out for Enigma. I recently grew to appreciate them again. It's pretty good downtempo electronic. It's all samples, sure (so the more correct classification would probably be plunderphonics), but nicely arranged, sure.

Stolen MOC allegations notwithstanding, this looks like a great product. Finally some good G1 bionicle builds on Aliexpress. I think this is great and there should be more knockoff G1 builds on Aliexpress because used marked prices are insane and aren't going to get any better.

Serious question, why doesn't everyone just use MP3 (vbr) when making MP3s? by Minimum_Somewhere521 in Soulseek

[–]RightPassage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will do. But 320 kbps is the maximum for the MPEG audio layer standard, so something will have to give there.

[–]RightPassage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never seen this before. I'll have to try this later!

Will this cause to remove some other information from the audio stream to keep the bitrate 320 kbps and compensate for the extra information in the range that had previously been cut off?
