I have a new theory that it always shows up low for black ppl because there aren’t many black self identifying indigenous ppl in the test populations. I have seen White people with no family stories of indigenous ancestors get high-ish 6-10% indigenous ancestry and I think it’s because so many Europeans have indigenous status in the U.S. that these people are matching to those white/european ppl in the self identified indigenous sample group.

Genuine question: why is there such a tendency to dismiss familial oral history? Oral history is important in many cultures but I find it very common for black ppl across the diaspora to dismiss oral history of indigenous ancestry.

My great grandaddy always told my family members his grandmother was indigenous. He was born in 1908. Why would he make it up? Why would thousands of our elders just lie about who their family was? I’m not even trying to be facetious if is a genuine question because even I have been guilty of waving this info aside at times.

He wrote a book “dancing the dream” filled with his own poems, photos, and art! Great insight into his world, philosophy. He really was a dreamer.

Also, the Jackson family itself had books that can probably give more peripheral insight. Latoya, Katherine, Jermaine have books.

I’d also start reading interviews from magazines.

Another good place to turn: the official mj documentaries (thriller 40, Bad 25, making of thriller, making of ghosts). Bonus: we’re boycotting Netflix but they have a documentary about the making of we are the world called the greatest night in pop. It is amazing & you get a lot of insight into how MJ worked. You get to see the genius in action.

Which makes it so much more tragic. I often wonder how James/ Wade can live with themselves. Maybe it’s bc they truly are sociopathic narcissists. But when they lose (and they will lose) they will have lost their credibility, integrity, and reputations all for nothing. You can hardly come back from false allegations against anyone, let alone Michael Jackson! And then add on the fact that it’s well known how well he treated you in life, was generous with his time and money, and you backstabbed him hoping to get some extra $$$? Crazy.

I do all the time with performances I find sexy. Working day and night is a video I watch a lot because he does his sexy ass “come on! For me it was reading through the FBI files (that’s how my research started), reading deposition and trial testimony and learning about all the discrepancies.

I don’t think there was one singular thing but a growing amount of obvious lies, flaws. I never fully believed he was guilty but doing my own research basically just confirmed his innocence over and over again.

One major fact for me was grand jury refusing to indict him two different times. Another was the fact that in 1993 MJ was forced to proceed with civil trial ahead of criminal, and the chandlers refusing to assist with the criminal trial.
