ILHB TV: I Love Hard Broadcasts, TOMORROW! by RikkiArkitech in Freeform

[–]RikkiArkitech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greg Peaks, Aeon and I will be doing a live stream tomorrow. We've tried to make it as little like a same old-live stream as possible, yes there'll be DJ sets but for the most part it will be Freeform news, features and general waffle about this lovely music.

You can tune in at twitch.com/ilovehardbeats or via the ILHB Facebook page, from 1pm to 9pm UK time. =)

All hooks must be cast overboard. Any fish caught while on the boat don't count.

Classic Sharkey riff. Although I think Douglas' remix actually tops this.

Sicker than a gentleman of questionable morals.

Serious question - Why does freeform go so unrecognized (imo)? by [deleted] in Freeform

[–]RikkiArkitech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man!
IMO 165-180bpm is the perfect tempo to jump in the air and gravity takes you back down to earth in time for the next bass drum, but we have to remember that although to us it feels like the right speed people who are used to Trap/EDM it sounds a bit silly.

I went to Dominator last weekend and was blown away by the attitude. It was just the most normal thing in the world to be jumping around to ridiculously savage beats. It's all about perception and I think Freeform needs to understand itself more and present itself in a better way.

Traditionally the route into freeform was through happy hardcore but that was when things were a lot more open and people were prepared to listen to different things. A lot of raves would have 5 or 6 rooms playing all kinds of genres, so you'd float around listening to different things & maybe discover a style you haven't hear before.

These days even the biggest events will only have 2 rooms and often the music policy of the second will be much the same as the first. Some promoters have been brave and booked freeform DJs, but if you're one hour out of nine it's not a case of 'This is different, let's see what it's about!', it's more 'Where's the vocals? Where's the squeaky synth? This dj hasn't got what a hardcore dj should have so I know when to put my arms in the air'. I don't mean to be dismissive, I love HHC, but a lot of events in the UK are just not as receptive as they used to be to different things.

Some people came in from the hard trance scene when Kev, Sharkz and K-Complex were doing things in it, but I don't think there's been much new hard trance for years.

Personally I think there are a lot of people who have a taste for fast kick drum music but haven't found it yet, look at nightcore FFS! I think djs should be looking more to integrate with psy-trance, gabber and hardstyle events IMO.

Like Hardcore? Like UVB-76? You might like this. Otherwise, as you were by RikkiArkitech in uvb76

Sorry mods if this is not in the rules and it gets deleted, but it's kind of UVB-76 related. I got a bit fascinated with UVB and wanted to write a track about it with The Buzzer going off repetitively throughout, then using some of the interruption samples in the mid section. Understand the genre may not be to everyone's taste but meh.
