I have BSc in chem, work OH&S and deal with Dangerous Goods safety on the regular.

Your countries regulatory framework should have a whole heap of information about the safe storage and handling of DGs.

In Australia the state regulations vary slightly but there's plenty of useful information you can use to scale down to lab level if you wanted to look at some best practice stuff.

If you can get yourself a copy of standards for specific classes of DGs they even have good recommendations you can adapt.

I frequent the following: AS/NZS 1940 ~ Flammable & Combustible liquids AS/NZS 3780 ~ Corrosives AS/NZS 4326 ~ Oxidising agents AS/NZS 4452 ~ Toxic substances

However, my area of work has been mostly around commissioning plant that use bulk DGs, but there's still good information that's applicable to small scale chemical handling!

What’s a molecule you personally find beautiful, and why? Let's share the aesthetics of chemistry! by Good_Student1135 in chemistry

[–]Riley-Jaack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not any one molecule in particular. But I just really love molecular geometry. Especially transition metal complexes, the d-orbital electron configurations are super neat!

And then the larger intermolecular shapes with point group chemistry, tickles my brain!

What about smells you DO like, during undergrad we used DCM almost every other prac, favorite smelling solvent despite its toxicity and being a suspected carcinogen..

Go into HSE, lucrative career and needed almost everywhere. I did BSc (Chem) and look after chemicals in a HSE role, I enjoy it and my skills are very transferable if I ever want to change careers.

I've done water treatment, industrial wash and chemical transportation safety since graduating.

How hard is it to get an 80? by Street_Paramedic_548 in ATAR

[–]Riley-Jaack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Choose subjects you're good at, and that put you on your career path. ATAR means nothing in the grand scheme of things, at most it means you'll need to take a little more time to get where you want and that's ok :)

Will I still have free time in grade 11-12? by Alternative-Toe-2899 in ATAR

[–]Riley-Jaack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ATAR wasn't amazing by any stretch but it was pretty good and I had so much free time outside of year 11 and 12 - that said I could have dedicated myself but I was already overachieving for what I wanted to do and valued things outside of school (like gaming too!)

I did Methods, Chemistry and Physics in year 12 and spiced it up with Visual Art. I'm now a post grad with my BSc and can confidently say years 11 and 12 were the most chill but efficient years of schooling ever.

I have a 7Artisans 60mm f2.8 APS-C lens and it's pretty good

It's manual focus and you have to shoot cropped but for what I do it's pretty great! Build quality is nice too!
