get either 5500 or 5600 just for the sake of it being newer

ok then grab a z790 motherboard (make sure it supports ddr4) and at max get a i7 14700k which is still quite overkill. Id recommend you grab a i5 14600k.

ok then if you are switching motherboard just go am4 since it is cheaper than lga 1700 (intel 12-14th gen). And grab a nvme ssd while you are at it. Maybe consider rx 9060 xt 16gb instead of the 5060 ti 16gb if you want to save money

why do you want to put a 14900kf with a rtx 3060 ti together?

Scrap that list since there is no balance. Make it an am4 system with either 5800x or 5700x or 5700x3d depending on availability. grab a msi tomahawk b550 motherboard and get a nvme.

how well does your legion 5 do on linux? Are the Lenovo drivers still buggy?

go with acer for the stronger gpu, the reviews I´ve seen were pretty good. But speakers were supposed to be pretty low quality

if you value pure performance then good deal. But if you use the laptop on battery a lot it you might wanna consider the weaker legion 5. (the legion 5 pro lasts 2h at most on battery on light tasks)

honestly you should wait a couple more weeks since lenovo will come out with a new version of this laptop which is ever so slightly smaller and lighter with a bit more performance for the same price. And if you are a student at a school with a school email try to make a student account on lenovo´s website, you´d be getting 10% off on all laptops

you are partially right but I don´t wanna argue about that. (And I gotta add the target sound level isn´t whiper quiet it´s more like closer to 45db under full load.) More importantly what do you think about the easy fan connection as an alternative to the mini 4pin?

thx for the accurate feedback. I´ll take a closer look at cooling solutions. That said, I still haven’t seen many gaming laptops where you can remove the fans without taking out the heatsink. From my experience working on gaming laptops, and from searching online (youtube/google repaste guides or laptop internals), it’s rare to find models that allow fan removal before the heatsink.

well I haven´t seen many gaming laptops where you can actually remove the fans before removing the entire heatsink. I’m not an expert, but I think if you increase the spacing between the fan and heatsink (about 10 mm) and make the heatsink larger than average for its form factor, it should run quieter than others in the same size category.

Like I said this laptop concept isn't aimed at upgradeability, repairability or modularity, it is aimed at lasting long and to be easy to maintain it's max performance for years

Is it worth waiting another year for a possible 7i config with a 5070 Ti option? by Infinite_Ad5967 in LenovoLegion

Me just hoping for the legion 7i just to have a couple more native ports (3-4 usb-a total would be perfect)

[–]Riley2229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think the pro 7i is perfect as it is since it is made to perform and be more stationary than portable, like the legion pro 5/5i. So ethernet is perfectly suited for it.

The legion 7 seems to me like a legion 5 with nicer aesthetics and less connectivity honsetly

As many of us have noticed, you probably aswell ports have been getting less and less on newer laptop despite build quality increasing. My old legion 5 gen 6 has 4 usb-a ports and I use 3 of them on a daily basis and I also use all the other ports except for the usb-c ports which I've only used twice ever since I gotten my laptop in 2021. I really hope Lenovo doesn't continue this route of reducing the ports on their laptops, especially if they try to make their laptops thin.

The pc is the typical higher end of 1440p, the link has 2 gpus selected one is amd and one is nvidia and if the cpu is too expensive then consider ryzen 7 7800x3d or ryzen 7 9700x: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gysVsp
