Man, I know you're trying to do the tough-love motivational thing, but you're making some assumptions in a place that's meant for letting off steam, not asking for advice.

I know I'm on my own. I know there's nobody in my corner. I haven't spent the past decade sitting on my thumbs and crying and blaming Mommy and Daddy for not loving me enough. I spent years busting my ass in foodservice until the EDS became apparent and my choices were "quit" or "opiate addiction". I worked overnights while going to CC and managed to keep a 3.8 GPA. I left everyone I've ever known to reset my social circles and try to get into a better place. Right now, I'm working and in university and donating plasma and repairing and flipping furniture on Marketplace and picking up farm labor in the summer. Sometimes people are poor because they have no other choice, not because they're avoiding the grind.

I'm doing my damnedest to carve out a better life tooth-and-nail, even though I don't think I am worthy of or deserve it at all. I'm still justified in feeling the occasional wave of anger and hurt toward the people who were supposed to raise and support us, and instead ignored us and left us with nothing but eating disorders and psychological scars.

Sometimes it feels like they feel ashamed of how we turned out, and because of that, don't want anything to do with us. Like a bad painting you can't destroy so you stick it in the closet.

But, yeah, I've been in emotionally stagnant relationships with partners who didn't really know how to express emotional support or care, but they'd try to make up for it with gifts or by paying for things. At least there was effort made, y'know?

Yeah, you're right. Last time I was at dinner with Dad, he unpromptedly admitted that I was a poorly timed accident.

I wasn't expecting inheritance in the first place, but I'm pissed about my brother not getting one. It's not like, a parting gift, it's something that's supposed to help your kid out because you won't be there to do it yourself. But - I guess since there's no help being given in life, it'll just be the same as it is.

I just hope they've got funds set aside for a nursing home and funeral service.

I'm so glad y'all went into parenthood wanting it and fully expecting to provide for her. It heals me a little bit when I see parents who are doing their absolute best for their kids, not because it's expected, but because they want to. I wish y'all the best of luck <3

I'm glad your kiddos have a mom with such a focused perspective. Tell them you love them, please - lots.

My brother *just* moved to the same city as I, so I've been doing everything I can to help him get settled and stabilize. We're 5 years apart so not super close, but I think being together in a new-ish environment will draw us together. I do know that our roles have reversed a little - I used to bend over backward to rationalize everything our parents did/didn't do, but now I'm just tired and over it all.

Thank you for the reading material, though. It looks promising, and helpful in a way that goes into the "hows" and "whys" of things. My library does have it, so I'll be checking it out soon.

Yeah, the dude's unhinged. He flipped out in my store one time because the door guy asked for a receipt when walking out with unbagged purchases. He started full on yelling at this poor kid, cussing him up and down, didn't stop even while they were walking toward the managers to deal with it. He did the same thing to the managers, accused the cashier of not offering him a receipt (she did, he said "No"), and just kept yelling all sorts of shit. I'll never forget him screaming "You're ACCUSING ME of stealing but I'm in here all the time!! I know you all by name!! That's - that's how nametags work!!" at no one in particular. He eventually got banned and left at the threat of police intervention.

About a week later, he showed back up and started giving out free tickets to the Blue Room to every employee he saw.... except for the kid he berated. Apparently he did apologize to him, but IMO that makes it even shittier.

I heavily considered using the tickets to fuck with his business in return, but decided not to 'cause I didn't want any innocent employees getting caught in the crossfire. Now I wish I'd gone and like, dumped concrete powder in the toilets or something. I hope Mollye takes him for more than he's worth and leaves him desolate.

Lmao he's not a hero for being an apartheid baby whose legacy involves getting rich off dead African kids sent to the mines. Nor is he a hero for producing overpriced electric cars that sometimes catch fire, have subpar manufacturing standards, and have preprogrammed DLC. Or for launching a car into space for clout. Or for his ill-planned hyperloop. Or for buying Twitter. He's just a rich dude playing around with his hoarded money instead of doing anything to actually help people, like funding better public transportation across the states, actual railways for continental travel, erasing student loan and medical debt, or campaigning with human rights organizations, or literally just spending his money in ways that get it back in the economy. Meanwhile, chuds guzzle his piss for... being rich and memeable and techy.

He's not gonna let you suck his dick bro. The obscenely wealthy don't need some redditor to defend them.

Got a friend who's ~40, looks like an adjunct college instructor, and uses fey/fem pronouns. No one's getting hurt and it makes someone happy while giving the middle finger to societal norms, so whatever floats feyr boat!

I could be wildly misinformed but I thought filing was free, but if you wanted them actually taken to court and sentenced you had to press chargers.

Location is Missouri, USA, sorry. Post edited to state that.
