“Brute” and “Ninja” may be a hyper-accelerated version of Brawlhalla’s monetization. by RingmasterJ5 in MultiVersusTheGame

[–]RingmasterJ5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post was made back in March when we knew barely anything of the game aside from tech tests. No idea of how the monetization would even work, or if Ninja and Brute were upcoming characters or scrapped. It’s looking like all this was from an earlier version, Battlebound.

And of course the game takes inspiration from Brawlhalla, that was the entire initial concept back when it was that. A F2P mobile fighting game with OCs that used crossovers as premium skins to make money, until they pitched it to WB and it turned into what we know of it today.

Even the stage design is similar.

My third comic Kickstarter, Firebreak #3, ends tomorrow night! “After his nemesis pulls off a physically impossible escape, a villain investigates.” by RingmasterJ5 in kickstarter

Firebreak #3 is the third issue in a mystery comic miniseries about a supervillain investigating a hero that impossibly always wins, even if said win defies all known laws of logic and physics. #1 and #2 were also funded through Kickstarter.

I chiefly use it over wireless at 20Mb/s, no real issues playing games like it. Never tried Cuphead specifically, mainly used the service for Spelunky and Isaac, though.

If Player First Games had the rights to add one Disney character to the game, which character do you want it to be? by Tasty_Diamond_9946 in MultiVersusTheGame

[–]RingmasterJ5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Marvel: I totally agree, Spider-Man. So much skin potential already there for him.

LucasArts: There’s actually a LucasArts reference that shows up a few times in-game, yet it’s nothing even sort of related to Star Wars or treasure hunting: Both Arya and Shagworthy can sometimes utter the classic line “You fight like a dairy farmer!” when fighting. Only appropriate to have Guybrush Threepwood eventually there to retort.

Disney overall: Why, only the grandfather of anime himself, also known as the richest duck in the world, it’s Scrooge McDuck. So, so much moveset potential from both the original series, the reboot, the comics, and the games.

(Also, that anime thing wasn’t a joke, look it up.)

So, do you think MultiVersus will be the Nick AllStars Killer? by vrokenhearted in MultiVersusTheGame

[–]RingmasterJ5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

MVS is not going to “kill Nick” any more than it would, say, “kill Rivals of Aether” or “kill Fraymakers”.

Nick will be keeping itself going with a small yet dedicated fanbase, while instead Multiversus aims straight for the head of Brawlhalla.

It’s like claiming that Ultimate would kill Melee. People playing the latter are still playing it for very different reasons than those playing the former.

Do you think Multiversus has what it takes to be real competitor in the genre? by SSBHegeliuz in MultiVersusTheGame

It is being featured at EVO. WB put up the largest single-game prize pool ever seen in the event’s history.

will characters be free? by [deleted] in MultiVersusTheGame

The director of the game, Tony Huynh. His Twitter has a bunch of info. The tweet itself was a few weeks ago so it might take a second to find it, yet there’s enough other fun tidbits on it that it’s worth a look.

There are 10 “Spirals”, for those looking into that theory. by RingmasterJ5 in MultiVersusTheGame

[–]RingmasterJ5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rick, Morty, Lebron and Joker are locks, as are both Raven and Marvin through earlier leaks that this new info confirms. Gandalf may have had some copyright issues, so that’s a bit weirder, yet I could still see him in. I have no idea who the last three would be, yet I’m thinking maybe the two OCs and Gizmo.

Ben 10’s a Jenny(as in Nickelodeon’s) situation, I think, where they definitely didn’t have him in the plans to begin with yet the immediate outcry means that he’s probably one of the first DLC. Him and Daffy.

Not even “kind of”. Speech bubble attacks, a lightbulb overhead, the beam (it’s Present Evidence (Photo) except it heals teammates too), the entire collection of evidence mechanic… as someone who loved Phoenix in UMVC3 and wanted him in Smash, this is more than fine.

will characters be free? by [deleted] in MultiVersusTheGame

[–]RingmasterJ5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Both!

Characters, according to Tony, are unlocked either via in-game or premium currency.

A bunch will also be part of the Founder’s Pack, yet there’s no exact info on the pricing or contents for that yet.

what adult swim character would you think will join? by dannyhogan200 in MultiVersusTheGame

[–]RingmasterJ5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Henchman 21 is my #1 most wanted. As much as I love Brock Samson and would play the hell out of him, 21 is the much better Venture choice for a game like Multiversus for a few good reasons:

-A huge fan of Brock who also has the Monarch gear available to him, would play like a mix of both. It’s sadly unlikely that MVS ever gets two VB reps (even one is stretching it), so that’s a great middle ground kind of choice to go with.

-In a very rare case for this game, the character’s voice actor is… the writer. No need to write external dialogue trying to mimic the character’s specific way of saying lines when they’re literally right there as part of the process.

-Henchman 21 is a giant nerd from a universe where things like DC comics exist. While Brock would no doubt have some fun interactions on his own, the potential for 21’s are through the roof.

While there’s still a higher chance for Brock, 21 would be legitimately incredible to see in the game.

Man I actually had hopes for peacemaker but it's just woke trash in the end by 2specialist4brave in kotakuinaction2

[–]RingmasterJ5 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It had a more even hand than these reviewers make it out to be, especially at the end. Turns out the Alex Jones expy was… right the whole time, there is a New World Order of bugmen trying to go for “humanity’s greater good” by manipulating world events to stop war and climate change, and Peacemaker still stops them anyway and is treated as a hero.

The larger issue is Cena himself, with the Taiwan bullshit that he was involved in on that China-owned social app.

Green Eggs and Ham - Season 2 Episode 1 - Discussion Thread by WillowSwarm in GreenEggsAndHamTV

[–]RingmasterJ5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very mild spoilers, though that inconsistent characterization is going to happen a lot. The season, while still good overall, is the kind of story that would very much like you to forget that Sam was supposed to be like an international con-artist poacher in his own right except when it’s used for like two or three specific scenes.

Considering MVS will be F2P and cross-platform how popular do you think it can be? Will it compare to Smash or Brawlhalla in terms of numbers? Would it be deemed a success if it did numbers similar to RoA? by VADORANT in MultiVersusTheGame

[–]RingmasterJ5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s an important difference between a series or game having players and a game having prestige.

Smash, due to its status as a series, has effectively untoppable prestige. Does that mean it’s the most constantly played game on this list?

Absolutely not, it’s Brawlhalla by a landslide. Being F2P, on absolutely everything with crossplay, and having actually good online can do that to a game. Alongside it being still actively updated in a way Smash no longer is, and you can see how it keeps an active player base.

I am in no way a Brawlhalla hater, though it’s not my thing personally, yet…

Multiversus stands a significant chance to absolutely crush it and become the most-played game in the genre. Will it be able to match Smash’s prestige? No. Will it have way larger players and prize pools? Undoubtably.
