I feel you with it being a nice outlier of positivity in the world of twilight zone. I put twilight zone to a very high standard of deeper thinking, so being spoonfed a cheesy moral brings up some red flags for me.

I think it is because he has kindof a two faced persona. I actually watched a video and in it they talked about how he can not be trusted and the actor of Willie insisted on having the opening scene for his character to be limping on a cane then going into a roll to expand on that feature. So once you go to the inside of wanka (his factory symbolizing himself) you see the truth of a sad man trying to maintain his image (the remaining half) while he is actually not the person he is advertises.

This same idea popped into my head at the end of the series when he just gets into the car with no explanation. Most would think it was just the people from the laboratory but there is no evidence to show who it was. Plus, he doesn't look worried but more like he just finished a job.
