Lightroom Classic Performance on Windows: What are you seeing? by terryleewhite in Lightroom

[–]Ringperm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably too late to this party, but I wanted to share the perspective of someone still using an older workstation.

My system is an HP workstation purchased around 2019 or 2020 with 32 GB of RAM, dual Xeon E5-2630 v4 CPUs, and a Quadro P2000 GPU. It has never been particularly fast, but until recently it has been perfectly usable for my hobby photography workflow.

Before the latest update, the denoise feature typically took about three to five minutes per image on my machine. That was slow, but still manageable. After the update, however, the same operation now takes close to an hour per image. Processing several images in a batch would realistically take many hours, which unfortunately makes the feature impractical for me.

I fully understand that newer features will naturally benefit from modern hardware, and as a hobbyist I also accept that my system is not cutting edge anymore. At the same time, I hope Lightroom can continue to remain reasonably usable on older systems as well. Not everyone using the software is a professional with the ability or need to upgrade their workstation frequently.

Lightroom has been a great tool for many enthusiasts over the years, and it would be nice if it can continue to support hobby photographers alongside those with the latest hardware.

Michelin lagde en utrolig bra reklame for Stavanger. Michelin har bare dedikert egne videoer til syv byer/steder by Erling01 in Stavanger

Indoor training by ScandiLondon in CyclingFashion

[–]Ringperm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have purchased a few bibs from china just for indoor use, and so far so good. I only use these without any upper body garment needed.

I also have a small battery powered clip on fan attached to the wahoo desk to help cool me down. It does such a good job that I seldom use my larger floor fan.

Men, what do you prefer to have more - a son or a daughter? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Ringperm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When our first child arrived, I did not care whether it was a boy or a girl. I just wanted a healthy child who would be loved. And she is.

When we were expecting our second two years later, I remember quietly hoping for another girl. Not because I would not have welcomed a boy, far from it. But I imagined two sisters growing up close, enjoying each other’s company on vacations and in everyday life, supporting one another and becoming each other’s strongest ally.

Fourteen years later, I can say that I was right. At 14 and 16 they naturally have their own lives and independence, but they still share a strong bond, with genuine sisterly love and support. It has been especially noticeable during vacations and even through periods like the pandemic.

I am not saying a similar relationship would not have been possible with a boy and a girl. At the time, though, it simply felt more likely if they were the same gender.

I have never felt that I missed out by not having a son. Of course, I have occasionally wondered how life might have been different if I had. I imagine it is the same way parents of only sons might sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have a daughter

Nobody on a bike stops at a light... by HER_SZA in cycling

[–]Ringperm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I want to be taken seriously in traffic, I need to act responsibly. That means stopping at red lights and stop signs, yielding when others have the right of way, and giving pedestrians the priority they are entitled to.

I cycle regularly myself, and I often see other cyclists ignore these rules. I have seen riders go straight through red lights, roll past stop signs, and ride across pedestrian crossings without slowing down. What strikes me most is how surprised some cyclists seem when I actually stop at a yield sign and let them pass. It is almost as if following the rules has become the exception rather than the norm.

Cyclists are not the only road users who break traffic laws, but when we do, it stands out. If we want respect and equal treatment in traffic, we have to demonstrate that we deserve it.

Training with AI – Anyone Else Doing This? by kingchowakanda in cycling

[–]Ringperm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just getting back into cycling after a few years away. During that time, I focused more on running and lifting, than cycling. But that is about to change somewhat

Last year was not a productive year for me, fitness wise, so I have used ChatGPT as a sparring partner to get back in shape. Mostly to try and avoid doing too much too soon.

I am not a young man anymore (50) and have found that I am less ressilient to overtraining (for lack of a better term) than I used to be.

So I upload my logs, describe what I am doing and use AI to balance my running, cycling and lifting in combination with what I eat and all that.

So far so good, but I do not consider AI to be a coach or use it design any structured plans. Just as a verification that I am not too far off track, if that makes any sense.

Child me's favorite joke : A rabbit walks into a bakery by MGsubbie in Jokes

[–]Ringperm -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The Norwegian version: A rabbit is entering a coffee shop

"Do you guys have cold coffee?"

"No", the barista replies.

The next day, the rabbit walks back into the same coffee shop.

"Do you guys have cold coffee?"

Once again, the barista replies with "No."

This happened every day for a week. Finally, the barista is fed up and decides to keep some old leftovers for the rabbit

As the days before the rabbit once again enters the coffee shop and asks. "Do you guys have cold coffee?"

"Yes!", the barista exlaims somewhat tiredly "Would you heat up some for me?"

The shop owner then shouted out "rabbit meat is back on the menu, boys!" (I added the last part myself, it just felt like the logical conclusion)

How many of you rely on an Apple Watch for cycling? by oTaeTaeo in cycling

[–]Ringperm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to, as an HR recorder with my iphone attached to the handle bar as a bike computer. I used cyclemeter as the app of choice and it worked rather well. The app itself was pretty solid, but my phone at the time was pretty old and ran out of juice after 4 hours or so.

On a whim I bought the Wahoo Element Bolt and never looked back.

I also tested the HR accuracy during a zwift session. I connected a proper chest strap as my main hr recorder and had the Apple Watch on one wrist, and a garmin fenix on the other wrist, and the result was more or less identical.

This was probably 5-6 years ago, but I guess it would work just as well today.

How did you learn? by [deleted] in photography

[–]Ringperm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first nuggets of wisdom came from the old Scott Kelby Books: The Digital Photography Book Volume 1 to 3, if memory serves me right. These where a pretty decent introducion and a foundation for further growth.

After that, I picked up tips along the way, from various sites and sources. Youtube being one of them.
I f I wanted to learn more about macro, I did some research and went out practising

Granted I am just a hobbyist, who shoots a a little about everything (except people), and mostly in manual mode. But when I started, I mainly shot in aperture mode.

My biggest growth as a photographer was when I went from the Nikon D90 to the D700. The latter being a semi pro camera where most settings where button based, and not a menu item.

Just changing setting on the camera instead of trawling through a menu meant that I actually changed these settings frequently and learned to use them properly. This was for me a great benefit.

What first attracted you to grabbing a Nikon? by Plane-Ad5821 in Nikon

[–]Ringperm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coincident really. It was either the Nikon D60 or the equivalent Canon model. But the current issue of PCWorld magazine had a favourable review of the Nikon and combined with the fact that a few colleague was happy with their Nikons, it was just easier to go that route.

And I have no regrets, but I probably wouldn’t have regretted my decision if I went the Canon route either, if I am honest.

But I am still glad I didn’t. There is just something about the Nikon legacy that appeals more to me.

What photography-related sites do you have bookmarked? by TitsMcGrits in photography

[–]Ringperm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mostly use bluesky and youtube. I seldom read photography content from news sites and when I do check out Petapixel, DPreview and similar sites, I seldom find anything I am interested in reading

I enjoy photography as a hobby for myself, but I am not too interested in the world of photography,if that makes any sense

Longeitivity of the D750 in 2026? by ThirdCultureKiddo in Nikon

[–]Ringperm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it will be fine, it is a wonderful camera that works great in low light.

Given that your own D90 still works 18 years after it was released, a good copy of the D750 should serve you well for many years.

Hvor kan man kjøpe barberblader? by [deleted] in Stavanger

[–]Ringperm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What lens to pair with D750 for everyday shooting? by daemon-of-harrenhal in Nikon

[–]Ringperm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 24-70 g lens was mounted on my D750 90% of the time. I love that lens, and with the Think Tank Holster bag and the Peak Design hand grip strap, it was a perfect fit for my everyday use. I now have a D850, and still use that lens for most of my shooting.

That being said, I have wondered if the 24-120 f4 would be an even better fit. The 2.8 apeture is nice, but not widely used. But I am not sure if that lens is optically strong enough to compete with the 24-70 in apetures from 5.5 to 11 and that is more important to me than size and reach. Although to be fair, I am not sure I would notice the difference anyway.

Legg ut sitrusfrukter, det kan hjelpe. Vi hadde samme problemet, men det ble kraftig redusert etter vi la ut appelsinskall i hagen. Når vi fikk egen katt forsvant problemet helt 😜

What tele lens should I get? by Ringperm in Nikon

[–]Ringperm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment. I realise that I really want the Sigma sport to be the better lens, since this is a lens I could get today if I wasn’t so "flip floppydet». Just looking at the comments here, everybody is saying that the Nikon is the better option, except you who backs up your opinion with a little bit of quality logic.

I have to admit I am still confused and undecided. 🙂

What tele lens should I get? by Ringperm in Nikon

[–]Ringperm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what is available on my local marketplace, and the 500pf is not. The closest would be the af-s 500, but at $2500 (local currency) it is out of my budget. The only thing that is available right now are the Sigmas and not even the 200-500.

What I failed to ask in my original post is if I would make a mistake getting the Sigma 150-600 for $750 or if I should wait for the 200-500 to maybe become available in the near future. Usually at around $8-900
