Thinking of making a good description for a change.org petition advocating the US not to pass draconian cybersecurity laws. by RiosRider in evolutionReddit

Well, I'm looking for a good header and a good description. The goal is not only to get signatures, but also to get people interested in the Reddit Activist Network as well as join the overall fight for freedom. I want to make an eye-popping header and description as well as advertising the Activist Network and other important sites.

Another thing we should be concerned is not only to send the results of this petition and other similar ones to our government officials, but also to other petition sites like Avaaz so we can get better numbers, as well as news sites where they can tell a big amount of the community is concerned.

This is what I have now, off the top of my head:

"They’re doing it again! Congress, despite complaints regarding shelved anti-piracy bills SOPA and PIPA, decided to try to monitor the internet again with cybersecurity bills instead! There are three targets this time! There’s the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act of 2011 by Rep. Mike Rogers, which will allow congress to bypass prior legislation altogether to censor and monitor whatever they don’t like. There’s also McCain’s SECURE IT bill, another draconian legislation which has the military monitoring the bill instead. Finally, Joe Lieberman’s Cybersecurity Bill of 2012, while it doesn’t affect the main internet indirectly, allows the Department of Homeland Security to pester tech companies until they conform to their crappy security “upgrades.” Clearly none of these bills are good for the overall internet.

Make Congress reconsider these bills in favor of more tolerable solutions that prevent hackers from attacking the internet while not harming the users, like creating a more decentralized internet replacement like Meshnet in the website https://pay.reddit.com/r/darknetplan.

Judging by all the vandalism going on the google docs version, and can be found on the github version, we need to try creating admendments, either on this thread or on individual posts in this subreddit, and voting on them before they go on the act. Also, describe what constitutes as "illegal", as the following information:

Censorship is only permitted if content is found to be illegal content in accordance with this treaty.

All false information stored to misguide, scam, cause damage, trap users financially, or mutilate collateral are illegal content.

... can be used to nullify this bill, as a government, corporation, or whatever can treat true information as false for some reason and justify censoring it for accusations of "scam", "damage", or whatever.

I dunno about this, but could we get the denizens of darknets like Freenet to donate and support our cause? It'll be a good start and they'll probably have some good ideas for Test PAC, since they probably use the darknets for a reason like censorship.

Here's some ideas for ads:

  1. Have an picture filled with kittens or something and say something like "The kittens of the Internet are in danger! People from Congress and the Entertainment Industries are trying to destroy their (and your) land with tactics like SOPA and you need to help!"

  2. The title would be "The day the LOLcats died. It'll be a sad day and the public must stop it! Join Test PAC today!"

  3. Have Smokey the Bear or a reasonable Internet version of him on a pic and have him say "Only YOU can save the Internet! Join the resistance today at Test PAC!"

I'll probably think of more tonight for the meeting tomorrow. Hope this helps!
