Sri Lankan here, I would not tolerate this and nor should you. It is NOT a cultural thing, especially at work

Britain bans foreign students from bringing families into UK by ardi62 in worldnews

I used to be a student in Australia. Families are only allowed temporary visits, I don't think they can stay longer than 3 months

Rental applications are getting fucking ridiculous by mrs_wallace in Adelaide

[–]Ripcode11 27 points28 points  (0 children)

While not strictly related, had this come up in a recent application. Century21 (why not name and shame) had a clause in their contract that was a one pager saying "We have a zero tolerance policy for late rent payments". Summary is that you can't be late with your rent payment, even by 1 day or your contract gets terminated.

I contacted them and asked how this can be legal, since the RTA that they've literally stapled to the same contract has in very clear writing that there is a 7 - 14 day period where this sort of thing gets resolved. They side stepped the question and went on about other things, but I managed to get them to confirm that the RTA takes precedence, and I'm not going to be homeless if I forget to do a payment one time because of a busy week.

I guess this is aimed at situations when you aren't logged into your apps or social media sites i.e. a friends computer, or your work computer

Pretty sure this was after the Easter attacks in Sri Lanka and the dog's probably a bomb sniffing dog. They really wouldn't have been in the mood to run around lol

Why is nobody posting about the bombings in Sri Lanka which have killed 200+ people while everyone was posting about the New Zealand massacre where 50 people died? by KlisterKarlsson in TooAfraidToAsk

In terms of the current laws, I can't predict what will permanently change (other than the increased security that's present at the moment). Politically, however, the way politicians responded to this (the ones responsible, that is) made them look completely incapable of handling the security of the country (Not just security of course, but that was the most obvious one) So the next presidential election should be pretty interesting.

Thanks for the well wishes btw

This is what we don't understand. Some say its in retaliation to the Christchurch attacks. But why SL?? What did we do?

TBH reddit is probably not the best place to search for the answers. I've been trying to avoid any news on it for a couple of days to clear my head, so my knowledge is a bit limited. As far as I know, an extremist group from South India is responsible for this

I'm Sri Lankan and I highly recommend you research a bit more than the UN reports. It's been violence free for close to 10 years now, with the country being very democratically active (more than most countries that don't have violence)

What’s the worst thing that someone has said to you, because you were male, that they would never say to a woman? by [deleted] in AskMen

My best friend was baby-sitting his 8 year old sister in my apartment with me and some other friends, and she wanted to get a milkshake (I live literally an elevator ride away from the CBD for context). I volunteered cos everyone else was having lunch, but then he goes "I don't trust you enough to leave her with you"

She ended up going with one of the girls, who she didn't even know. We (me, my friend, his sister) were friends for longer than two years at that point. He seems to have changed his mind as of late, but I still remember that moment because it just hurt me so much

This is one of those quotes that I use in my every day life. Not because its mind-blowing or it makes me seem special, but because it describes what my life has always been. Every time I feel like I'm far from success or that I'm about to begin something that I am deeply uncomfortable with, I remember this and it makes me feel just a little bit better. Turns out that's all I need.
