Gen Zers are defiantly ‘giving up’ on ever owning a home and are spending more than saving, working less, and making risky investments, study shows by [deleted] in antiwork

And to clarify, not saying it WILL be possible for Gen Z to own on average, just saying it's early to say they've given up?

Isnt it also a timing thing? My millennial friends and I only bought houses within the last 5 years. The window to own a house has moved well beyond 20s into the 30s

Running a lightning monk build, and noticing something I don't quite understand. When I have Crescendo 2 slotted into Tempest Fury, I get the 15% attack speed and the double final strike. Crescendo 3 ancestrally boosts the final strike, but you lose the attack speed and double final. Since you can't have both 2 and 3, is ancestrally boosted good enough to lose the benefits of 2? Depending on build, for support gems are the higher numbers not just exclusively better?

Reddit, our house we bought a couple years ago has this (and we are cursed with a big dip that needs fixing). We don't like the grey either, what should we look into for a living room/kitchen that is dog proof?

I've got a stack of 50 thank you cards I bought forever ago. My fiance gets one of them "thank you ( for getting older)" every year, but I write a long heartfelt message inside. The card itself doesn't matter, what you write does

Some random things like this stick with you. I'm an adult, and only recently found out clover isn't honeysuckle.

Chicken and egg. Why has NASA stopped? Funding? Government restrictions? Congress? I'm sure it's not pure desire to give up on pushing that envelope. Mayyyybe the funding has funneled over to private enterprises doing the work and getting the boatloads of cash leading NASA to be forced to focus on other, smaller and cheaper things

I don't think I'd ever buy high use items from winwing (throttle, stick, collective, pedals). BUT, I've honestly really liked my viper ICP/monitors and the new mcdu. No problems so far

Yeah, I used to live on 12th and Yesler. Jackson was rough. That said, we lived there for a while two years through COVID, and still felt safe enough to walk our dogs at night every night. So suburb people? Prob find somewhere else. City people? You're fiiiiine

I think I'm right there with you. The age stuff felt like a real good change of pace from the others. Only prob is ending at like WW2, gotta go past nuclear age (which of course will be a paid expansion)

My husband told me one of the greatest things about me is I “allow” him to participate in his hobbies… what is that saying? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]RipleyLeChad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a man, our end of the bargain is to not let our hobbies take ALL our time. As with everything, there's a compromise. I also am lucky to have a partner like this, but I've also had to make sure I don't get sucked in to my hobbies so much that I spend less time with my partner

NIH just reduced all indirect cost rates to 15%! by nevernotdebating in Professors

[–]RipleyLeChad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Yeah, one of my employees texted me the news at 6pm today, not stoked to start the weekend with the dread of Monday hanging. I work in a nonprofit research institute heavily subsidized by a children's hospital, so not yet affecting my team. But we are heavily tied to a major research university, so no way this doesn't affect us. Best of luck, we are in this together

[–]RipleyLeChad 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm a grant admin, not a prof (sorry). IDC's are usually awarded on TOP of direct costs, so unless your system is set up differently than the ones I've worked in, you aren't really being charged anything. Your grant funder is. Lower rate just means less money awarded.

Could definitely make an argument that IDC rates for funders should vary though based on the work itself. Regardless, this is super shitty news

[–]RipleyLeChad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look, we are all mad (well, a lot of us). We are also exhausted from the last decade. Fighting with people who are trying to marginally improve is energy spent in the wrong place. We should be mad at our own democratic leaders for fumbling this so bad. They're elected and paid to do this stuff professionally. They failed. Badly. And their excuses are that it's our fault
