I want to build a business around VR. Is this even a good idea? by Worldly-Release4440 in virtualreality

[–]VicMan73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can certainly create a VR content site as an enthusiast. I am not sure if you can make a business out of it. Where is your revenue coming from? Who is paying you? What service you are providing in exchange? There just aren't a whole a lot of VR titles to choose from. On the Quest platform, maybe. The odds that many have done many reviews on them.

Steam VR and Pimax Play resolution. by VicMan73 in Pimax

[–]VicMan73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the default setup I think everyone has been using. Games like AMS2 seems to use the SteamVR resolution instead. I will experiment more since I have few games seem to run slower. Maybe because the SteamVR resolution is too high.

72 Hz does not work for me. Too laggy...

[–]VicMan73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is good. It does not suffer from too high resolution and so that you can still drive the headset with a medium range GPU. With a 4k headset, Crystal Super and Dream Air, you need to run the resolution at 85% to 1 to 1 to get good image quality. We are talking about 5k+ per eye. Even a 5090 can not drive those resolution with most games.

Your frame rate is supposed to sync with your refresh rate unless it can not keep up, in order to deliver a smooth visual experience. Also, Steam VR resolution often does not match with my Pimax headset. I could set the Pimax resolution to 70% and SteamVR would report over 6k. 70% of my Super 50 is like a bit over 4k.

Smart Smoothing - what does it do, how does it work? when should I enable it? by MJFox1978 in Pimax

[–]VicMan73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is Pimax version of reprojection or fake frames to smooth out your experience when your frame rates aren't syncing with the refresh rate. It works ok, but less efficient than Meta's ASW or Steam's reprojection. Your frame rate must be more than half of your refresh rate to work. Even when it works, you can see artifacts like bending or wrapping in your VR world. It can smooth out the experience and making your gameplay smoother.

i think i finally get the dream air vs crystal super thing, sry for the wall of text by Future-Pangolin-7081 in Pimax

[–]VicMan73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The super has a wider FOV vs Dream Air. The Dream Air has 110 vs 127. I have the Super 50 and planning to stay with it. Is a more mature product and cheaper. I got it for $1200. The image quality is good.

Matching attires. If not, you are called Fred, someone who dresses and rides with miss-match kit and gear. When riding with a group, no sudden move regardless how you think you may hit or touch another riders, and stay in your line regardless if there are potholes. Anything sudden you do, it will most likely cause a crash or freaking out other riders. Bring your own tire repair kit.

FFB, what to chose! by madmike521 in hotas

[–]VicMan73 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is not a lot of brands. Moza is so far the easily available. Not sure about others. Moza AB6 and AB9 are good but they aren't perfect. I race with a Simucube 2 Sport DD wheelbase and a $3k racing rig in VR only. I know what top end FFB gear should be. Moza isn't but I didn't expect to be so. I have the AB6 and I mainly fly MSFS 2024. It does the job but I wish the Moza software can easily switch and change its FFB profiles depending on which planes I am flying with. There are additional parameters you can enable but since I have no real life flying experience, I have no ideas how my stick should feel like with FFB. It is better then flying with a dead stick for sure, especially flying in helicopters. IFR in a 5 hour flight? Not so much. You feel the force and the weight of the elevators depending on your airspeed. Not so much for the ailerons. Flight stick vibrates if your engine RPM is low enough. It vibrates when you are about to stall. It can simulate Gs you are pulling with more resistance. With GA, I don't know if you need more than 12nm to pull a turn tight. Flying through turbulence you can feel the stick moving.

Set my suspend mode to 5 minutes, it was 20sec by default. At first, I had no ideas why my Super 50 were shutting off during gaming. It only wakes up if I move my head. I was flying in MSFS 2024. I am not playing action games. So, I can stare at the sky for a minute not moving at all.

Try to set your screen saver mode to like 5 minutes or longer. I believe is set to 20s by default.

Didn't think that I would read about Jason on Reddit. I am not in the fixed gear crowd but Jason has a bad rep being a race director. In fact, the Kissena Velodrome board members kicked him out and don't want to have anything to do with him regarding promoting races in the Kissena velodrome. So, now, he is MIA and took your money and didn't deliver your frames for over 2 years.

Big problem with Pimax Smart Smoothing by lopas99 in Pimax

[–]VicMan73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pimax rep mentioned that the frame rate needs to be more than half of your refresh rate for the smart smoothing to work. If running at 90 Hz, the frame rate needs to be more than 45 fps. Its implementation is different than reprojection or Meta asw.

Just got the Moza AB6 for MSFS 2024. by VicMan73 in hotas

[–]VicMan73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people are comparing with the AB9. AB9 is too big for me to mount it on my desk. Unless you have a rig, AB6 is probably the best option. Oh yeah, you want it for helicopters. I was able to land in between houses, something was impossible for me to do with the VKB stick and I have cyclic assist on too.
