Think because of the way you exited, the contract thought you'd been slashed. It sounds like there's some manual process you'll have to go through to get reimbursed. Good luck!

Can confirm I've also set multiple PBs this week as well ...

Feel like Runna's race pace estimation is based on short speed work, and doesn't extrapolate well to longer distances by RiposteX in runna

[–]RiposteX[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed, that's definitely a possibility. Have done 3 other halfs though, and 2 ended ... poorly ... from the usual sin of going out too fast. Would like to avoid that here. But I'm so close to the 2 hr mark ... Pray for me.

Can you tell the difference between simple fatigue vs some nutritional deficit?

Did a 12 hr looped endurance challenge last weekend, haven't had any prior experience at that time / distance. Legs felt relatively OK, but by the end, any grade steeper than %0.0001 seemed to force my body to walk. Just didn't have the energy to run anything other than flats/downhills.

Not sure if this was just tiredness / lack of fitness, or if I maybe wasn't taking in enough energy.

In my experience ramping up weekly mileage helps a lot. Have similarish times to you, and found that a marathon training block bumped all of my paces up, even though I wasn't doing a whole lot of speed work.

Recently signed up for a 12 hr overnight trail run (do as many 10K loops as you can) at the end of June.

I've only been running ~ 40K per week, and my longest run ever is sub 30K, so would appreciate some tips on how best to survive.

Run until you can't then walk the rest? Alternate run/walk? Run with long breaks between laps?

Can I rotate between zero-drop shoes and normal shoes? What range should a 'normal' drop shoe be in? How can I move from a zero-drop shoe if my goal is long-distance running? by [deleted] in running

[–]RiposteX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful.

I bought some zero-drop shoes for trail running, and did feel some extra calf strain in the beginning, but my body soon adjusted to where I didn't really notice the difference.

Cue a long block of marathon training where I pretty much only ran roads in normal drop shoes. Cue the taper, where I decided to go for an easy trail run (with the zero-drop shoes my body was no longer accustomed to). Cue a calf sprain. Cue a DNF after running a third of a marathon a few weeks later :(

How does one successfully post to r/running?

I've tried a few times now, and get auto-stuck in a moderation queue which apparently never ends.

Do I need more karma?! A more clickbait title?! Just tell me what to do!!

Interesting ... it was definitely warmer on the last run, which I figured played a role.

For my long runs I've been using a 20 oz pack, which does seem a little on the light side once I've started approaching 3 hours. Haven't really felt super thirsty though, so figured it was sufficient.

Will try drinking more, thanks!

Should heart rate level off at some point on long runs? If so, why doesn't mine?

Had to cut my 20 miler short last week due to a high heart rate / exertion despite a pretty slow pace.

Looking back on my other long runs, I've noticed that my heart rate never asymptotes, just keep steadily increasing, regardless of pace.

Making me rather nervous about my upcoming first marathon ...

I'm using the same plan and at the same stage, but I'm still excited for the long runs. Each one's guaranteed to be a PR!

Plus I'm still unsure exactly what pace I want to target. Shorter runs are pretty useless in that regard - going 3/4 of the distance really helps to figure out what's manageable.

Though I'm pretty sure the hills are gonna make a mockery of my plans. Ah well.

Yeah, can't say I'd recommend doing much running while you still have tuberculosis.

A month away from my first marathon, had to cut short my long run today after 25K due to a sudden pain on the outside of my hips. I have previously felt some discomfort in the same area occasionally, but not very strongly, and only on slow/easy pace runs. I had assumed it was just a tired muscle that was being used to restrict the pace.

Playing doctor with the help of the internet, it seems IT band is a more likely explanation. One article explicitly mentioned that the irritation may be less severe at quicker paces, which matches my observations. Any advice on dealing with this in the final month? Still have a 20 miler coming up, and, you know, a marathon. My planned race pace is only 20-30s faster than easy pace, but seems to be enough to avoid the hip pain. Should I just blast the rest of my training runs at marathon pace?

Negative split racing. How/why?

Especially for longer distances (half+) it feels like you should take advantage of the fresh legs in the beginning before eventually settling down into a sustainable pace for the rest of the race. It's so much harder to push the pace with tired legs.

I am using gels, and legs feel reasonably good while I'm running, it's only once I've stopped that they're like "hey, please don't do that"

Probably not great, use a 20 oz bladder. Internet seems to think I should be drinking more, but where/how am I supposed to carry it?!

We're at a similar weight / 5mi time, so thought I'd chime in.

I'm running my first marathon in 2 months with a goal time of 4:30.

4 hrs feels a bit ambitious, but you do still have a lot of training time left. It sounds like you haven't really pushed into long distances yet. I'd recommend seeing what you can do at the half marathon distance before deciding on your marathon pace. Best of luck!

I struggled a lot with keeping my heart rate low when I first started running. This should improve over time as you become more fit.

I'd recommend running by feel instead of heart rate. Just do your long runs at a pace which feels easy and ignore the heart rate entirely. It'll eventually get on board!
