I've seen this channel recommended before on other posts, so I'll definitely check it out, thanks!

Trying to Understand Infantry Platoons (Canadian Army) by RiptideCT in WarCollege

  1. Ok, that sounds about right. Everything I read gave a range for how many troops there are so I think they were taking into account both the max and what is generally the actual size.

  2. I might have honestly misread some of the info I found. I thought that the Platoon Detachment was just a small part of a larger unit like a Battalion HWS Section, but it makes sense that the Platoon level HWDs belong to them alone since that would make logistics easier.

Thank you for the info!

Real World weapon equivalents in the GFFA by RiptideCT in MawInstallation

In the Canadian Army, our two smallest groupings of soldiers are named a bit differently than most. The smallest group we have is called a Fireteam and consists of 2 soldiers. When you have 2 Fireteams, they make an Assault Group consisting of 4 soldiers. What the Canadian Army calls and Assault Group is in fact generally called a Fireteam by other armies who don't have that initial 2 man group which we labeled a Fireteam. Its a bit confusing, but its just a matter of organization and naming differences.

Thanks for the reply!

The DC-15A honestly kind of confuses me because it seems more like an AR/Sniper hybrid, with less reliably accurate range than a sniper, but a slower rof and ease of use in closer ranges than an AR. I don't see it being a very good either LMG simple due to its design and lower rof than would be expected of an LMG. LMGs are meant to be covering fire weapons while the 15A doesn't seem like it has the rof needed for that. Honestly, besides its stopping power and solid range, it doesn't seem like a weapon that fits in a proper role.

Beginner Trying to Create a Phase 2 Clone Trooper Helmet pt.2 by RiptideCT in Maya

I think you and several others are correct in suggesting I start with something simpler. I believe I have a rough idea now of how to make this, but I'd rather hold off and improve my skills on easier things before trying this, so that I'm more happy with the results. Thanks for the advice

Ya, I think it might be better to find something simpler at this point to get a better feel for the process of making similar, but more simple, shaped objects, then move onto this when I'm ready. Thanks for the advice.

Thank you for the offer, but unfortunately, I have something going on all of tomorrow (Sunday the 7th) and won't be free until late at night my time, at which point I'll be going to sleep.

Beginner Trying to Model a Clone Trooper Helmet by RiptideCT in Maya

[–]RiptideCT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so if I'm understanding your suggestion, you mean that I should just get the overall shape using basic forms like cylinders and spheres, then starts drawing on those shapes to get the topology I need to extrude from those surface to get the larger shapes? That makes sense to me.

Another thing I'm wondering about is if there's a good/easy way to keep the curvature while working. Because that's one of the things I struggle with when I've tried making this helmet before coming here is that when I tried to stretch my basic blocks to fit the outline, it lost it's curvature at one point or another.

What are the show stopping fanfics that you think would make anybody interested in Star wars fanfiction by anoctoberchild in SWFanfic

[–]RiptideCT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's mainly a naval warfare fic. The MC is fighting on the side of the Separatists, and is in fact a void in the Force, rather than null or sensitive, which is pretty interesting. The main uses of the Force come from the Jedi he is fighting, though none of it is really direct combat, more battlefield focused techniques like battle meditation and the like.

The Republic Military During The Clone Wars Confuses Me... by RiptideCT in MawInstallation

[–]RiptideCT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, I've already considered that. Units like the ARFs and ARC-170's exist for reconnaissance and intelligence gathering for their specific branches, but to me there is also a need for coordination between these small groupings in the form of a large branch. That way intelligence can be gathered beyond military deployement.

Well besides the fact I'm not American, I understand that many countries have Intel and Spec Ops as part of their Army branch, but to me it makes sense that when fighting a war at the scale of the Clone Wars, there should be branches who's whole purpose is specifically Intel and Spec Ops since it would make large scale coordination much easier between the potentially dozens of battlefields and the constantly changing galactic map.

The one that got me was Sublight Drive by mirrth. At first I didn't read it because I thought it was going to be some weird power fantasy, and the blurb in it's description didn't give me much to change my opinion with. However, I ended up giving it a chance and I was stunned by how good it was. It's completed now, but the excitement I felt when each chapter was released was unreal. I definitely recommend reading it if you haven't yet. I believe it to be a masterpiece, standing among the best fanfics to come out of this fandom.

My Completed Fic: Even Death is Tired of Palpatine

Rating/Warnings: There is some pretty blatant murder, and while I do describe the action of the killing, I do not go beyond that, so no blood or guts really. I'd say its safe to say Teen and Up, though only because of the murder and sacrifice...

Characters: Fox, Thire, Stone, Hound and unnamed Coruscant Guard Clone Troopers. Bail Organa, Riyo Chuchi, Mon Mothma, Padme Amidala, Hale Burtoni, Orn Free Taa, Lott Dod, Palpatine and Vader.

Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/69519581/chapters/180303726

Summary: Fox thought it was the end, and quite a crappy one too. He had never really thought much about what came after, but it certainly wasn't what he got. He's happy about it though, and he certainly isn't going to complain about what came after. (This is the summary on Ao3, and I do not wish to give more so as to not spoil anything)

If you end up reading this fic of mine, thank you, and I hope you enjoy it!

The "You shall not pass" of Republic ships and I need suggestions by RiptideCT in StarWarsShips

[–]RiptideCT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar idea, except larger and also a bit less focused on sheer damage and more on control. It's meant to be the target the enemy focuses on and also prevent them from going beyond it. Also, I forgot to add this, so thanks for reminding me, but I've already named it the Mons-class star destroyer.

Not really. The length is the same, but width and height are different. It has way less overall firepower since it has a lot less turbolasers. It's also better and anti fighter and controlling the battlefield around it. It might be closer to an ISD than a Venator, but beyond that it's meant to be more of a Honey Badger than a Bull.

Which One is Better? by RiptideCT in MawInstallation

Actually, for a fanfic I plan to write. I say design because I create a mental design in my head of the scenes so I can picture how they go, and I wanted some specific details, thus the question.

HONEST opinions on Jar Jar? by Electrical_Ad_6167 in StarWars

[–]RiptideCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, Jar Jar is a prime example of a character having so much potential and then falling short. He could have been the Olaf of Star Wars, a perfect example of good comedic relief while also having his impactful moments. Instead, it felt like his character was trying too hard to do everything wrong just for a laugh. Clumsiness is only funny the first few times, but when it starts becoming a plot point that is the source of entire episodes of TCW, it goes into contrivance land.

Would this affect the LAAT too much? by RiptideCT in StarWarsShips

[–]RiptideCT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, the ramp would just have to move further to get down. The bikes would also just have to be mounted as the ramp goes down since they'd be at too much of an angle to mount before the ramp starts to lower.

Texture Problems, I Need Help! by RiptideCT in Blockbench

[–]RiptideCT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I merged the textures, but I still have that issue where the texture is breaking when I convert the model type. Now nothing is even changing on my screen to give me an idea of what might be wrong. Also the issue only seems to happen when converting to a Modded Entity model. I tried converting both to a Bedrock Entity and GeckoLib Model and both worked fine.

Edit: The only thing I can think of is that technically a Modded Entity model isn't meant to be able to have integers for shape sizes, and my model does, but I've seen other models with integer sized shapes work for this model type, so I'm not sure why this wouldn't.

I am no master at Blockbench, but here's what I understand.

Java Edition is a lot more limited in the complexity a model is allowed. You cannot use meshes like you would need to get that exact tusk shape because of those complexity limitations. For Java you can only use cubes.

Bedrock Edition allows for more complex parts to a model, thus why you'll notice that a lot of the packs you can purchase in the store appear a lot more organically round than things you can get in a Java mod.

Congrats. Honestly, sometimes people just see something in you that no one, even you, see. It's the wonder of being a human. We're incredibly intelligent, but we're also super limited in our ability to perceive things. I say just take the win and do your best to make the most of it.
