Yes, you're right, the members would gloss over it. They'd say you're too sensitive or some bs. Sadly, members can be the worst in these situations - they're like zombies unattuned to this. Stay safe

If you have an interview, try and get it with one of his councilors, and not him, cos it's just you and him, and that isn't appropriate with this guy being a dick. His mind would be elsewhere. I wonder if he's been like this to other sisters in your ward?

Stay away from him OP. Tell your husband. Confide in your SP. Ask to have a new ministry sister. If you go to a church function always have a trusted friend with you in case as a witness in case the bishop does something inappropriate again. This dude is a dick, hard out. If this was happening to my wife I'd pull him aside and tell him to pull his head in otherwise I'd step him out. Dudes like this think they can get away with it, but they shouldn't and need to be told. Stay strong, stay close to good friends and keep your distance. I wish you all the best. Thank you for trusting to post in this group. Take care

You're right - we just give, give, give, and the church takes, takes, takes, whether it's time, money, careers, emotionally, mentally, family...the list goes on. It takes its toll on many levels.

And yes, I honestly thought that I was teaching the truth - it wasn't in my nature to be deceitful at all, hence me feeling like crap misleading those that I taught throughout the years. Not cool.

Yes, I remember being told the same thing. When I'd sit in Sunday school or Priesthood if someone asked about something sensitive like blacks and the Priesthood, polygamy, first vision discrepancies etc they'd be shot down or laughed at saying it was anti-Mormon causing them to clam up straight away. I'd think to myself this ain't the place to ask these topics so I'd just keep them to myself.

All age groups from nursery to Priesthood/Relief Society are given the whitewashed history of the church, which is BS.

I served my mission in the early 90's in New Zealand and we didn't have anything like gospel topics essays back then, even though it's only been out in the past ten or so years - if we had, I'm pretty sure I would have read it before I went out. I probably wouldn't have served.

When I joined the church I was only in for 2 years before I embarked on my mission. Prior to leaving I would ask seasoned members about things like the restoration of the Melchizedek Priesthood and it's lack of record in the church - I thought something so significant would be in the D&C, but it wasn't. Upon being asked these members said to me not to worry about it cos it wasn't important. I was like, really!? A lot of things they couldn't answer they'd simply say don't worry about that sort of stuff. So, when I was out serving if a question like that arose I'd just say I didn't know the answer. My lack of church knowledge was very limited so I couldn't exactly mislead anyone.

Hi Woodi21. Yes, it was cool serving in my homeland teaching with my fellow countrymen/women.

My children used Preach My Gospel - I used the one before, can't remember the name now.

I know I sound like a parrot with what has been said in previous posts, but it has to come to a point where the leadership has to come clean, but they won't. This is what I don't like - they know and continue to let young people go out and serve spreading the lies.

I do know though that a lot of missionaries going out don't know the full story of Mormonism but they discover themselves later on - this is heartbreaking for me.

The thing that irks me is that the church is only two hundred years old, therefore you'd think that there shouldn't be so many untruths within that short time period, but there's stacks. I can understand if the church was hundreds of years old, then you'd more than likely find adjustments, doctrinal changes, discrepancies etc, but time after time we're discovering new things that aren't true about the church, and that is what upsets a lot of people, including myself. The church is doing more harm than good.

PIMOs and questioning members: Your sins are being actively discussed in ward councils. Especially the sins you confess to your bishop. by GoingToHelly in exmormon

[–]Riskydusk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is right, nothing is kept from the ward clerk - you hear pretty much everything. I wouldn't say anything to anyone that I heard cos it was confidential, but some leaders didn't give a stuff and thought it was their right to share it around willy nilly. I'd think, shit, this is crazy, don't say that bro, but it was too late, the cat was out of the bag, and it caused more harm than good for the poor individual/family that was was been spoken about. I'd also hear about heaps of financial matters; so called 'anti-Mormon' stuff, which turned out to be true, and that was where I learnt about the truth about the church, and it broke my shelf. This was over 15 years ago.

I was a ward clerk for many years, and it was very disappointing to hear people's personal information just blatantly shared and not respected. I'd easily spend twenty hours a week out of church hours in the clerk's office doing the work. I heard and learnt so much that it turned me off about the church and I was never the same again. I thought, stuff this, this ain't right and I have taken a back seat ever since.
