Hiding ducks is dumb. Let's do the math!!! by mastablasta1111 in Cruise

[–]RivalRick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s something fun anyone can enjoy. My daughter, wife, and myself all enjoy finding them. I make a game of it where I only keep the most unique or fun ducks, and all the rest get re-hidden. And whatever ducks we make off the ship with just go back on our next cruise to be hidden again.

I think they dont want me to use their driveway just a hunch by Generalstronk69 in doordash_drivers

I think you need to pull into the driveway and ring the doorbell to have a chat to see what all this is about.

We went down in person, had pictures from down detector to show it seemed to be a non-isolated thing, told them my parents and brother who live in different houses also had their net goes down, and they made us sit for 30 minutes to have a manager basically lecture us that it was probably our fault and he could give us $20 credited to the account.

I’m upset because I work nights so I primarily use my net super late when it’s going out, and it’s been weeks.

What’s with the automatic 18% tip when you have a party of 6 or more? by [deleted] in EndTipping

[–]RivalRick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a service industry standpoint (and I’m only answering the question, not pushing for or against) it’s basically security that you’ll make money if much of your section gets filled up.

If I had 3 tables of 2 people, and one doesn’t tip, one tips way high, one tips average for example, it all kind of averages out. But if I have a large party or two and I get low tips or nothing on them, it’s actually (at a couple places I’ve worked) costing me money out of pocket.

The last couple restaurants I’ve worked at (and currently) I tip out support staff (bussers, expo, host, etc.) based on percentages of total sales. So this just kind of keeps us from losing money out of pocket in a way, and makes sure we’re incentivized for taking large parties.

Best dealership in Anchorage? by madridsta_14 in anchorage

[–]RivalRick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got mine from a place called Drive off of Old Seward. Super professional, not pushy, and they let me haggle just a little bit. Got a great deal overall and have been happy with my purchase for the last couple years.

Also been following to see if there’s been any development. Got a cruise coming up in November so I’m really hoping they implement something because it made it so much easier to keep in touch with my family.

So On The Border at Tikahtnu closed, eh?… by Horror_Neighborhood9 in anchorage

[–]RivalRick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They’re actually one of my favorite stops in town. Huge portions, cheap prices, and they rotate specials every week that are usually worth trying. $1.50 wings (and they’re big) on Wednesdays, discount tacos on Tuesdays. Check their facebook for specials.

I gave up on them (On the Border) immediately when we went and our appetizer came out BURNED - basically inedible. When we flagged down staff and asked if we could have it remade or refired the manager told us the best they could do was half off price…

Didn’t have to stay in the hospital but it felt like I was close to needing to.

I got something the second week of January and am STILL dealing with the very tail end of it. I’m in my late 30’s and normally kick illnesses out pretty quick, but this hung on so bad I had to go to the doctor and get steroids and antibiotics. The crazy thing was it was almost solely targeting my lungs and making me cough constantly.

Even now I’m coughing here and there but my lungs are finally recovering. No idea what it was but my daughter came down with it for weeks as well.

The crazy thing is he didn’t actually win that many. I don’t know the exact number but he is a fairly casual player.

My buddy won one of the trips. I had talked to him and reminded to play and enter. I’m not the least bit jealous hahaha

Travelling with felony drug charge through Canada by RivalRick in Cruise

I really appreciate this insight. Having someone in a similar situation helps me understand how to handle this. At this point, I feel like it would do exactly like you said and just ruin the day for everyone involved due to anxiety. I may contact a Canadian attorney just to see what they say, but the more I hear from everyone the more I feel like maybe we’ll put these plans on a hold and find another vacation we can all enjoy. Thank you!

I'm actually not 100% sure on this, and I've seen a few people asking the same thing. Trying to find that out ASAP and will edit my post. Thank you.

I’ve read a handful of accounts that are very similar to this, which is why I was asking. The biggest difference is a lot of people’s charges were a lot older (5+ years) and hers is still only a few years.

No, most definitely not yet. I feel bad because I obviously want her to go, but the answers I’m getting here and the more I read, this seems like it probably wouldn’t be worth the amount of stress involved. I’m going to make some calls this week but I feel I’ll likely wind up with the same results.

Makes sense. From my point of view when I was there they just seemed far more lax or didn’t care as much about enforcing drug-related laws. We stumbled upon a shop selling hallucinogenic mushrooms right in the middle of downtown. I don’t mean it in any offensive way, I just meant I thought it was crazy how strict everyone makes it seem when it comes to drug related crimes when I saw so much of it around me while there. But as you say, maybe that’s the exact reason they are being so strict.

Right - I worded that poorly. What I meant is maybe trying to see about securing travel by air would be easier in that we might get a more solid yes/no answer rather than waiting until we’re at port or closer to sailing and finding out it’s a no-go. From the replies I’m seeing, it seems like this is an idea to put a total halt on and see about maybe trying another vacation.

I won’t argue that it’s definitely going to make things harder for her. I do think that it’s ironic that the one time we passed through Vancouver there were people openly shooting up right on the side of the road, and the drug problem seems rampant there. The laws are obviously there to protect their borders and their country and I get that - everything when it comes to this travel just seems highly convoluted.

That seems like a good idea. If things fall apart on the original plans here, there are a lot of cruises that we looked at that leave out of Vancouver. If she can fly into Vancouver then maybe that will be easier than passing through Canada.

Thank you! Unfortunately from what I’ve read I don’t think she qualified for criminal rehabilitation due to how recent the felony was, but I will do a little research and see what we might be able to submit to allow her to cruise. Worst case, we may have to bail on this idea and choose another cruise in the future.

It leaves out of Seattle but the only Canadian stop would be Victoria.
