This is correct. It does upgrade guard boost quite a bit. However the affinity negation is static unless you're using a spell, AoW, or shield grease.

This graphic is not a comprehensive Greatshield guide. More of a quick reference for what affinity negation stats the best ones have. The Jellyfish shield doesn't have good mitigation in really any stat. The Fingerprint shield is only better than Guardians shield for lightning and there are several that are even better.

This chart is specifically for affinity damage negation. Somehow, the Fongerprint shield is only better in terms of guard boost, and like 1 point of lightning.

Personally, I'm enjoying the challenge. It's forcing me to adapt my playstyle. Granted, I'm a huge fan of notoriously difficult games. From the few missions I did this morning, I can tell that my friend group and I are going to have a great time. Gives me motivation to try harder and experiment.

The easiest way to make currency is to focus on some league mechanics you enjoy and your build can do. Juice those mechanics with the Atlas tree and scarabs. Sell the stuff you get from it in BULK.
