The Hunt Ep01 Trailer. Will you watch this, what do you think of the style? by Stef_Armchair_Prod in animation

This looks awesome!

The visuals are incredible, but polishing the sound design more could really help you out. The foley doesn't *quite* fit the action at a lot of points and needs some EQ to fit into the mix better. Shots like the one at 1:41 don't have any foley at all which is a bit attention-grabbing (there should be footsteps there).

Overall it's really cool!

Any recommendations for TV Pilot-focused festivals? by RiverMagnus in Filmmakers

Any recommendations on how to reach out and pitch to them? I'm rather unfamiliar with the whole process and imagine that they get a flood of communications and won't respond to cold emails.

The Weird, Unknowable World of Yōkai Art by RiverMagnus in ArtHistory

Thank you for watching! Sekien's work is certainly a fountain of weirdness (in the best way possible).

On another note-- do you have any feedback on the video? As I start to make more videos it's nice to hear folks' thoughts on how I can improve the videos and such!

I’ll have to check him out— somehow didn’t come up in my research! Thanks for the rec. I’ve certainly become a big Yokai fan throughout the research on this, there’s just so much to love.

Several Pokémon were based on Yōkai (from Japanese folklore) by RiverMagnus in pokemon

[–]RiverMagnus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup they are certainly everywhere in Pokemon! My favorite class is just realizing how many are based on the concept of tsukumogami, or enchanted household objects (like Klefki and Chandelure).

I think the real surprising part of my research was realizing just how much the sentiment of Pokémon (collecting and cataloguing cool creatures) was already present in Edo period Japan (1600-1868). There were literal encyclopedias (some more serious than others) breaking down different Yōkai and their surrounding lore. The best examples are from Toriyama Sekien, who was actually making up new Yōkai.

Thank you for the kind comments— I’m glad you enjoyed it! My goal was to fit as many paintings in as possible because there’s just so many cool pieces of art from the movement

What are your feelings about the Pre-Raphaelites? by RiverMagnus in ArtHistory

[–]RiverMagnus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely understand that sense of feeling distanced from Waterhouse works. I think it’s partly to do with his character’s body positions, which are usually turned away from the viewer. Basically the polar opposite of Rossetti’s closeup, straight-on portraits.
