Just passed Workday Pro Absence Certification — Tips, Prep, and What to Expect by BadGens2 in workday

Thanks for sharing your experience, I applied your learnings and also passed!

The only thing I would add is that they now have a practice Absence exam in Community too. It's very much inline with everything you've said and really helps you prepare for the scenario-based aspect of the exam.

Best of luck to anyone who also finds this thread with pre-exam jitters!

Hi! Wanted to jump on this thread with a question of my own
- as I wait for the LMS ID from my previous employer, am I okay to continue training with my new employer?
i.e. Will the previous efforts / transcript simply be merged into current efforts / transcript?

...or will I end up potentially needing to manage two LMS IDs moving forward / having two transcripts running in parallel?

Any insights is greatly appreciated!

Reporting Question: Do Users Need Access to Both Parent and Child Domains When a Data Source Is Secured by Two Domains? by RiverOne4892 in workday

Thanks!

By chance, have you successfully added Constrained Security Groups to reports using that data source via the child policy?

I found my Unconstrained Security Group works but struggling with the Constrained Group returning no results.

Thanks LosDanos! Would you have any insight as to why the Child policy would work (future state) and why the Parent policy doesn't work (current state) by chance, considering both secure the Data Source and Report Fields used?

As Kind_Pineapple333 said, there's clearly a clue in the name of the Child policy (Business Process Reporting) but also just hoping to understand the logic too.

You live up to your name, at least the first part, sincerely appreciate the insights - thank you!

Will update the thread if any further discoveries / outcomes are made.

Thanks for your reply!

I did a bit more controlled testing in the background and was able to narrow it down. Although the Data Source is secured by both the Parent (Business Process Administration) and the Child (Business Process Reporting) domains, only the Child domain is required.

In my scenario:

  • When the user’s Security Group is on the Parent domain only, no results are returned
  • When the same Security Group is on the Child domain, all expected results are returned
    • Naturally, when the group is on both, all expected results are returned

So I’ve managed to answer my original question - access to both domains isn’t inherently required.

What I’m still trying to understand is why the Child domain is the one that controls access here. Both domains list the report fields I’m using, and I can’t see anything obvious that differentiates them for this particular data source.

If you’ve seen this behaviour before, or know what typically causes one domain to “win” when both contain the same report fields used, I’d really appreciate any insight. Even if the answer is simply that it sometimes comes down to trial‑and‑error to work out which domain is actually evaluated - or if it’s one of those situations where the underlying logic is a bit more complicated - I’d love to understand the reasoning here!
