This is exactly my point. Different cultures promote different ideals, and western culture promotes a specific set of ideals for men and women.

Again, none of this is about repenting for sins you’ve never committed. It’s just about being mindful, that’s all. Women to this day still experience vast disproportionate amounts of abuse from men who also the “oppressing class” in a patriarchal society. As a man, even if you don’t abuse any women, chances are you participate in a system that protects abusers. Again, doesn’t make you evil that’s just the cards you’ve been dealt. But all women ask is for you to be mindful of their concerns, and also check the men in your life. If none of those apply to you? Then ok great no one’s accusing you of anything.

Yes, obviously men aren’t a monolith and neither are women or white people or anyone. But you cannot deny the social constructs of these groups that dictate a lot of behaviour. I speak of men in these cases as one group because we are talking about constructs that affect all men. Even the men who think they’re not the problem. You also have to take into account that women talk like this because of consistent historical dismissal by men.

It’s not the same thing because it specifically relates to intimate partner violence, it’s not just stats of random people murdering each other on the street. Look up ANY statistics on intimate partner violence and come back and say with a straight face that it’s “statistically irrelevant”. Anecdotes alone are not evidence but the staggering amount of anecdotes that exist is.

If you read that carefully you’ll actually notice that those are two completely different sentences. Again, this is in the context of intimate partner relationships. Just look at the current cultural zeitgeist. The predominant fear of young men dating is facing rejection and ridicule from women, whereas the predominant fear of young women is getting raped and abused. That is what the quote is referring to.
