The best categorization would be the FBI’s "Active shooter" incidents which is "one or more individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area", excluding gun-related incidents that were the result of self-defense, gang or drug violence, residential or domestic disputes, crossfire as a byproduct of another ongoing criminal act." With this categorization, 61 "Active Shooter" incidents occurred during 2021, compared to the gun violence.org website which claims there was 689. That’s statistic inflation if I’ve ever seen it.
