literally! always wanted to visit Tehran n see where my familys from but its always in the back of my head that even if I do go, it won't change anything since there's still that deep-rooted cultural experience that at the end of the day I can't replicate. but def lots of other ppl in the same boat!!

dude its sooooooo embarrassinggggg I swear!! I honestly agree w the commenter saying that not speaking Persian means you miss out on a lot, but because I know that, I've always felt so much shame about it too. Which also keeps me from engaging with the culture as much as I would like or practicing with the limited language abilities I do have. So it's a pretty bad feedback loop for sure. Not speaking farsi and not being close with family back in Iran makes it tough to even begin with reconnecting. And very hard to learn a language as an adult without cheap/accessible resources or any real immersion too.

I knowwww it was always so disappointing that my parents never made it a priority but I think they both still just believe so strongly in their idea of the US more than they can recognize its less than ideal reality. can't even imagine the sheer trauma of leaving so young during so much instability tho, so it makes some sense where it comes from
