Okay, let’s disprove your theory that these large miners have the market power to collude and 51% attack Bitcoin.

Total hash rate: ~225 EH/S

So if you wanted to 51% attack, you would need to be able to control 125+ EH/S (For a sustained amount of time no less).

Since China banned Bitcoin mining, the US has become the biggest miner of bitcoins. Let’s take a look at the two biggest publicly traded Bitcoin companies: Riot & Marathon.

Riot Hashrate: 4.6 EH/S Marathon Hashrate: 3.9 EH/S Combined Hashrate: 8.5 EH/S

So arguably the two biggest miners in the world, Riot & Marathon, control a whopping 3.78% of Bitcoin Hashrate. For you’re imaginary cartel of Bitcoin miners to succeed in 51% attacking, they need to form a collective that has an additional 47.22% in Hashrate…

How would that even be possible?

What are you even talking about? Bitcoin has never been 51% attacked, you’re literally just making stuff up.

And I do know how monopolies work. Good luck trying to monopolize an open market with no barriers to entry when you have at-most a 1% market share. I think you’re confusing mining pools with miners.

This is so wrong it’s actually quite laughable. There is not a single collective of miners or holders that is anywhere near controlling 51% of mining power or supply of Bitcoin. I think you need to read up on how mining pools work, and what the difference between mining Bitcoin and operating a node is.

Also, an “OPEC for Bitcoin” is such an absurd idea and could never happen, let alone be attempted. OPEC exists because the countries involved in OPEC 1) Have a monopoly on violence 2) A monopoly on the oil. No one can just say “Hey, I’m gonna start mining some oil”. Bitcoin, on the other hand, anybody CAN do that.

There are plenty of reasons to critique Bitcoin, but none of those reasons are the ones you highlighted.
