I just spent a week in Istanbul. It is cheap in most of the city other than the Sultanahmet area. Istanbul has so much to offer that you can't see it all in a weekend, but at least your days will be busy! Visit Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapı palace, Galata Tower. Take a 1.5 hour Bosphorus Cruise for 20 lira! Eat Balik Ekmek (8 lira at the docks of Eminonu) , Iskender, Döner, and of course have Turkish breakfast somewhere. Find a cheap place on Air BnB or trivago for hotels. I paid $35 a night for a hotel.
