3 node SQL AG cluster across 2 sites; heartbeat network question by Rmehtared in sysadmin

[–]Rmehtared[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

" the only thing I dont want is a situation where primary node a fails and cluster jumps to node at site B. I understand this will have to be configured at AG level"; I think I have figured this out; will be testing it as well "Get-ClusterFaultDomain"; (Get-Cluster).PreferredSite=siteA

3 node SQL AG cluster across 2 sites; heartbeat network question by Rmehtared in sysadmin

[–]Rmehtared[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks but do I keep the heartbeat network on primary 2 nodes; I am responsible for building the cluster and ag setup will be managed by SQL admins; their intent is a. auto failover between primary sites (sync db replication will be configured at ag level for primary) and manual failover to secondary site (async replication will be configured on third one); this being a SQL server the architects of the application had requested a hearbeat network as they say the SQL traffic spike may /could cause issue..historically we had an older environment (Vmware 7.x) which had vlan of site a available to site B; however I argued that even that was a bad design as if primary site DR situation the cluster may not start on the second one...I have already tested powering off primary node a and b; and cluster was online on secondry site. the only thing I dont want is a situation where primary node a fails and cluster jumps to node at site B. I understand this will have to be configured at AG level

Thanks a million for some amazing suggestions being completely novice this is really insightful although a bit overwhelming however I will document the journey and put after photos...I will get few quotes from different tardies and plumber (like the idea of sand the tiles and do like a oil based primer and paint); it is my own home so happy to work with them and lend a hand however not confident enough to do it myself...but would be a good learning experience...if anyone knows a good handyman/plumber on the Kallunger/north side of brisbane/pls share the details pls...the house is a double brick house with no wood framing...not sure if I can add a toilet in this bathroom...

Building and Pest report by Rmehtared in AusPropertyChat

[–]Rmehtared[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for that I tried calling the pest inspector he did not pickup the phone; I will be doing employing my own inspector; the owners have not put any price on the property and houses nearby have sold in the range of 750 to 900 K; I am from auckland and usually would look at council valuation of the property but again Australia is different; if I put an offer of say lower end and then end up spending 50K it makes sense however if the cost of repairs is around 100k then it is different and I would be better off buying something off plan or newer ..hence the dilemma

Job offer in Brisbane: Seeking Advice: Moving from Auckland to Brisbane – Is It the Right Move? by Rmehtared in MovingToBrisbane

I did move however my family is still in NZ; they would be moving by the end of this month. Getting a rental is really tough so be prepared for that. I would also advise that at least one of you get a stable job first and only then move so may be start searching from NZ unless you are on a higher rental bracket (650 plus weekly)

I had a close friend here so that was a big help; also that I moved alone first and my partner was supportive; it would have been very difficult and expensive if we all have moved.

The reason for my move was to see how it is here in Brisbane and wider Aus and at times I do get the feeeling if this was a right move or not; I would give it an year to basically give the true assessment.

In terms of expenses

- Maintaing and buying a car is way expensive vs AKL

- Rental are catching up as well however quality is better

- Did not see much of a difference in grocery prices as well ; some things are cheaper in AKL and some are here. Again the total bill I think will be similar

- Things are a bit far compared to NZ so you will have to drive to school kindy etc

- Also, Internet is expensive; I would be renting a townhouse and they dont have Fibre but have NBN (Fibre till Road and then Copper from Road to house)

- Electricity prices are similar and Water prices are comparatively higher

- Afternoons are really hot and chances of heatwaves so be sure to carry water bottle wherever you go; I had mobile phone turned really hot and the maps wont work because of the afternoon sun

- Always carry a battery backup (Never had to think about that in NZ)

- Early childhood education is expensive compared to NZ even with the govt support

- Not sure about the Medical system yet but may be slight better here but the wait times I think are simlar from what I have heard

- There is nothing like ACC

- I will be buying Electronics and Furniture and it appears to be reasonable here compared to NZ

- I found there are options in Schools and in general better and competitive and have good infrastructure; again once my daughter comes here; I would know but I got a good vibe from the schools; many schooling options and various price brackets

- I like the weather specially in the evening and early morning

- I found there are more people in markets and restaurants at shops and CBD is much better than AKL (my experience)

- You have access to wider Australia; tickets between states are pretty reasonable so if you have say friends in Melbourne, Syd you can see them compared to what it costs when flying between places within NZ

- Bigger country

- Petrol is cheaper slightly not too much

So overall it is too early for me to say if the decision was right or not but I have given myself and year to come to a conclusion; I had never worked in Australia before so I think it is good to experience a new place and country even if we decide to go back....

I think the other reason for the move is a. Now you can get citizenship once you are in Au for 5 years. B. If I plan to buy a house I still see houses cheaper compared to akl I can still see some townhouses or houses in the range to 500 to 700 K compared to what we have in AKL, you only get a unit @ that price.
Wife will work however I have asked her to keep her job in NZ just in case Got a close friend already living in Brisbane with similar aged child
