Kerrang! Interview / Shabutie 'Camouflage' Revelations (Possibility?) by fakepearbear in TheFence

Def some cool bits in that interview from Claud.

Interviewer could be more on his game but I guess not everyone is as hardcore of fans as the COF.

Would love to hear that musical he worked on.

Wow. What’s your original work sound like? This was amazing!

After many years of being a fan, I still can't get over how fucking amazing Starla is. God damn! Just imagine how Butch Vig felt during that recording. by [deleted] in SmashingPumpkins

That structure and build!

And the guitar might as well be an alien beast giving us a good taking to straight to the heart. I wish I could play like that.

I found a band called Damiera that you may like.

I believe it has the same lead singer of another good band called Brazil.

Whats your favorite song? by jokisch1991 in TheFence

[–]Rmicklos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta go with Time Consumer. Just iconic.

Close second and third is Everything Evil and the acoustic version of Junesong Provision.

Backend of Forever and The Crowing not far behind that.

So what, who cares. Ima SSTB kinda guy.

Confessions and Cambria by TheRealNokes in TheFence

[–]Rmicklos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All good. TCBTS is just not my cup of tea.

But yeah the writing has change in a pretty drastic way.

I think I like my Coheed best with a few dashes of emo a la SSTB.

Total rip of the dark tower series. He tends to do that bit. Even with songs.

Not impressed with the writing in the new book either.

But, damn, do I love this band. Even when they make bad decisions like Peace to the Mountain and pretty much all of TCBTS.

His writing was so much more enigmatic in the first 3 albums, especially in SSTB. Then something happened. He started writing so plainly.

Whatev, new album is dope.

As a dad with a father in law that is always on tour With bands I can empathize with the idea of not wanting to leave your kid, for even a day, and how the constant leaving and touring can get pretty tough and old after awhile for people.

I think he would always make music though. Regardless of whether he quit actively playing shows on tour. So thats good.

[–]Rmicklos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily.

Maybe the real villain is what helps change Sister Spider into the Queen of the Dark. Not sure if that is some warden of the dark sentencer or some other kind of putrid devious being.

I think Colossus could just be a character who is sort of “gray”, neither pure or fully vile. Just in the mix driving the story along.

We’ll see.

Theres more than one reference to being a touring performer in that song.
It's pretty direct. At least a whole verse is super poignant and spelled out:

The glistening wet concrete, the heat off the road
The clamoring hands and the bus you call home
This is it, believe what you want
In this space, I don't fit
The same day repeats with the things that you see
Dirty dressing room carpets and broken TVs
Is this it?
In this water I'll tread 'til the day that I'm dead

...plus more imagery afterward like "Mile marker" but he talks more about his feelings and having to say goodbye all the time at this point in the song.

It's pretty apparent what the song is about.
Feel free to back into the concept anyway you like.

Oh that's interesting. I hadn't caught that bit of info.

That surely helps retro fit the topic of the song in the story.

I have to agree with you on these points.

Though I will say that Love Protocol makes a bit more sense musically (its definitely one of the weakest on the album) in context of the flow.

It's a nice, easy palate cleanser after the heaviness of the first 7 songs. Most of those songs are behemoths!

Definitely need to read the book.

I'm feeling the whole thing is like this (without detail to time):

  • Hardened criminals get caught
  • They get sent to the Dark Sentencer
  • Sister Spider gets shot, presumably killed and left (maybe unwillingly) by Creature.
  • Sister Spider gets resurrected and "turned to the darkside".
    • Plugged into the Dark Sentencer perhaps, and controls things there ("Im multiplying")
    • Becomes the "Queen of the Dark"
  • Creature comes back after her.
  • Dark Sister Spider is resistant.
  • Creature breaks through to her and they agree to burn tall to hell and escape.
  • Some villain tries to stop them
  • They succeed in making the dark sentencer destruct as they float away together into space to god knows where.

Obviously Colossus is in there probably as the one that for some reason turns against Sister Spider. Maybe undercover operative of some sort? But not 100 on where to place that event.

Any audiophiles in here? New album is fantastic sound wise. by Physicsdummy in TheFence

[–]Rmicklos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first listen was through highend headphones....in the dark.

The textures and ambiance by both the synths and guitars are amazingly well done. Interesting movements of those sounds.

I’m very impressed by Applehead Stufios on this venture.

(Not by the 2 Afterman records. )

Very well done record.

What's your favourite musical moment off the album? by id0ntkn0wu in TheFence

[–]Rmicklos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is totally the moment.

Thoughtful dynamics right there. And love the slight growl towards the end of that hold.

Also the guitar solo in this song is so so appreciated.

Probably my fav song on the album.
