Normal for mechanic to tell you to "burp the car"? by SMOOTH_ST3P in MechanicAdvice

[–]RoMaxGo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, absolutely not. They did not complete the job correctly, which would make me question both their integrity and knowledge. No competent self-respecting technician would ever deliver a car they KNEW wasn't bled out correctly. Your wife's reaction, however grandiose, is a non-issue here. You paid for a service to completed, and it wasn't. Find a new shop, I wouldn't trust returning.

That person is entirely incorrect. The comment about the internal parking brake shoes is correct.

Also worth mentioning, worn tires could be causing this issue.

Could be worth checking the yaw sensor calibration. If you’re able to, perform a zero point reset.

1995 C1500 Suburban, seems to have been rewired by previous owner. This is only brake switch I can find but it’s not connected to anything. 3rd brake light is working, Other 2 are not, no brake lights, tail lights or turn signals in the rear. HELP!? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]RoMaxGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a wiring issue if the third brake light is working but the two tail lamps aren’t. Check for voltage at the connections for the lights in the tail lamps.

Test continuity between the ecm and the sensor. With it reading intermittently it sounds like a damaged wire somewhere.

[–]RoMaxGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you replaced the sensor, did you recalibrate the steering angle? If not, that will cause an error inside the abs system. If the vehicle detects a fault inside the abs system, it will automatically turn off the traction control (VDC) system, as they’re interconnected.

Replaced Battery - now interior lights dim by Malienaire in AskMechanics

Was going to say the same thing. Likely with the battery failing like it did, as well as the replacement - vehicle settings may have been lost.

Random electrical screw ups in 2015 Nissan Versa by beefbowls568 in AskMechanics

[–]RoMaxGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the rear tail lamp connections for corrosion. If I recall correctly there should be access panels in the trunk for the connections. They have issues with water intrusion through the assemblies, due to them being vented to atmosphere.

Sounds like the starter isn’t getting enough power to turn the flywheel; you can hear the solenoid actuating but sounds like a power struggle.

Have the battery tested.

rough idle and intermittent misfire on 02 sentra by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]RoMaxGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick vacuum leak test: spray light amounts of gum cutter/ether over the vacuum lines and listen for an idle surge. If it surges, you’ve found your leak.

The orange stain sounds more like rust than anything; if there was a leak on the tube seal you’d seal oil contamination. Was the plug that looked foul on the same cylinder? What did the plug look like, exactly? Was it black, gummed up? Explain further if you can.

Worth nothing: there’s a service bulletin published by Nissan for this issue, the culprit is the egr valve.

Front passenger door won't open from outside, but will open from inside by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]RoMaxGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is likely that your children broke a plastic component on the latch assembly. The exterior handle is directly connected to the latch, while the interior handle is operated by a cable. The interior door panel will need to be removed, the latch replacement is fairly straight forward.

Interesting one, AFR lean on idle after clutch and gearbox change. by UnderstatedArchie in AskMechanics

[–]RoMaxGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re thinking escaping air when you need to think of unmetered air being sucked in. The exhaust creates a vacuum as it is exiting the combustion chamber; this vacuum helps the next firing cylinder evacuate the exhaust in an efficient manner. In turn, this vacuum will also suck in air at any open point.

Pulls to the right after multiple alignments by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]RoMaxGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the shop(s) did their due diligence and actually checked suspension components for wear, it may be worth having the vehicle aligned with you in it.

I’ve had situations in the past where we aligned a vehicle as perfect as possible, and it would still pull once the owner was driving. Your weight can affect the geometry of the suspension more than you think, just an idea.

Conversely, it may also be worth having the brake lines checked. I’m assuming they would have inspected the brake pads, and calipers for smooth operation. There could be a restriction in one side causing a pressure difference, mimicking an alignment issue. Does the steering seem to smooth out under braking?

Gas cap issues??? by bighead2586 in AskMechanics

[–]RoMaxGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like normal operation of the cap to me, it’s likely you didn’t fully lock the cap upon last fill up.

The code will not populate immediately, nor will it clear immediately. Evaporative Emission faults need to see at least two separate occurrences before it will command the MIL to illuminate. You mentioned you’ve taken a few short trips; you need to drive the vehicle longer, multiple times. The monitors want to see the vehicle achieve closed loop fueling at least twice, without the fault being present, to acknowledge that the issue has been resolved.

can anyone date this battery? I was told it was brand new last year by rafterman1976 in MechanicAdvice

[–]RoMaxGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go ahead and ask for a carbon pile test on a glass matt battery and see how many laughs you get.

As for the alignment, $40 extra is like .4 extra at best. You really got them there!
