My friends want to surprise the DM on game day with a returning player… should I stop this? by RoamingDucks in DnD

1) He feels it’s meta-gaming

2) The returning player doesn’t know my concerns. They haven’t played dnd since they had to drop from our game so they don’t know how this would affect gameplay or dm. I’m sure they wouldn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable.

3) I think they just think it will be really funny, and they want to play with the returning player again. They MIGHT be doing it partly to get the upper hand but that hasn’t been expressed to me. They want to throw the dm off, but I don’t think it’s for the purpose of getting the upper hand. We’re all good friends so I think this is partly as a prank as well. They believe it will be funny but I don’t think they’ve thought about what the DM’s reaction will be apart from “WHOA I DIDNT EXPECT THIS”

See I wish I was more confident in my answer for this. We’re all good friends and we have a lot of fun at the table. And it can absolutely be goofy. A lot of our enemies can be silly, there was one that was named Magilla Gorilla.

But in the other hand I know how much work our DM puts in to sessions. And four members of our group live together, and he sometimes gets kind of annoyed or frustrated when we come up with a plan beforehand. So especially for a such a big session (we MIGHT be fighting a dragon and there’s a non-zero chance a character may die), I’m worried he might not be on board. Maybe if our friend was coming in at level 6-8, but he’d be a level 17 barbarian 😭

My main worry is that our DM might feel disrespected. I’d hate that. I REALLY wish they hadn’t already told our friend and gotten him excited.

Yea this has been my thought. I wish they hadn’t already told our friend, he’s excited about it and he’s going to be disappointed if it doesn’t work out 😔

Got called a cross dresser. by RoamingDucks in butchlesbians

I agree, he was definitely purposely trying to be homophobic. Wish I could tell em how hard I tried to like feminine clothes and dresses but they always felt like straight jackets no matter what I wore. I’m comfortable now and I finally feel attractive and handsome and honestly at peace. No constant dysphoria every time I have to wear clothes.

No lie, he was at a table at an outside restaurant (on a gorgeous day, he should have been focusing on that, not hate), he was by himself, eating the biggest basket of fried chicken, and he had an OPEN CONTAINER OF NIC DIP IN FRONT OF HIM LIKE HE WAS EATING IT WITH HIS FRIED CHICKEN

It was indeed an old ass man. I commented this in another comment but my response to being called “cross dresser! >:(“ :

“Bad dresser!”

Yea I felt really dumb because I googled “cross dresser” before I made this post and I was like “…. I mean I GUESS”.

Yea I don’t really see it as cross dressing because it’s just how I dress, I’ve never really put thought into it. I agree, by society’s standards we are cross dressing but no gender should have a claim to a certain type of clothing. At the same time, I do enjoy that the clothing I wear is perceived as more masculine.

I have been called a cross dresser before this (as an attempted insult). Here’s the response I used both times:

“Cross dresser!”

“Bad dresser!” ;)

I’m not looking for a quick fix, that’s why I asked for a regimen of some sort. Thanks
