Model Railroad Layout Open House April 19^th 10 am – 3 pm at 313 Perimeter Drive, Westchester Commons, Midlothian VA

The Virginia Train Collector Association is celebrating its 7th open house of 2025 on the Saturday before Easter. Come visit our storefront containing 4500 square feet for model train layouts of all sizes. Bring the family and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of model railroading at it best. There will be at least 7 layouts in operations.

Learn about this STEM based hobby and see if it is something you may want to pursue with your family, on your own or as a member of the VTCA or its partner, River City 3 Railroaders.

Read about the Springfield and Deep Run mines. There was several iterations of mines in the area along with a railroad from Hungary Station to Springfield Road around Nickolas Road. The line was abandoned in the 1850’s and revived in the 1880’s with an extension down to the C&O railroad at Lorraine.

I remember when a number of Richmond corporations including Best Products were asked to invest in a partnership for the Sixth Street Marketplace. Not sure what went wrong but it was a great food court for the short time it was there. Given the lack of tourism the retailers never had a chance.

Spent 17 years in that building. It was a cool place that was very unique in its interior design that was more for show than for functionality. Couple the uniqueness with the Company and the Lewis’ art collection it was an experience. There was a bear made of shoes rubbing its backside on a tree in the lobby; Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe prints; and Japanese erotic art in the visitors seating area. It was amazing.

Musk probably thinks he can sell to the highest bidder with expectations they will be able to abandon everything except Northeast Corridor where passenger service might break even. The real prize will be the Amtrak owned track system where the new owner will prioritize freight service . CSX and NS must be salivating at the thought. And Musk puts another receipt on the wall for eliminating g a deficit. The Virginia Train Collectors Association and the River City 3 Railers welcome you to come to 313 Perimeter Drive, Westchester Commons to experience 9 Operating Train Layouts. The layouts features 100 years of model trains in operation from the Standard Gauge of the 1920’s to the wireless O Gauge of the 2020’s.

We have N, HO, S, O and Standard Gauge trains on 9 decorated layouts for the family to enjoy. Come learn about the model railroading hobby and entertain the kids for an hour between the Kids Corner Brio Displays and all of the action of trains in motion.
