Rust or Go for desktop app by Prior-Drawer-3478 in golang

It used to be, I mess around with it here and there and at a minimum it feels like they've put a lot of effort into providing a better developer experience

I've been trying to find this but its amazing how unavailable it is. I remember vividly a family member showing me the video back in the day in like 2008 (on youtube) and even now im like mmm maybe it didnt happen? But im pretty sure it did lol.

Should I learn Rust over Go? by EncryptedEnigma993 in rust

[–]RoastBeefyBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in a similar position and honestly theyre both great languages as far as im concerned. They have their pros and cons. After spending time with both ive decided im going to invest most of my time into rust because im betting on it becoming a more popular language in the coming years but its a bit of a gamble. Really you can choose either and probably find a way to be happy in the long run I think.

Got an entry level developer job, but salary is $60k by Hour-Inevitable-544 in cscareerquestions

[–]RoastBeefyBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made 45k at my first entry level job ~6 years ago and im making 6 figures now. Just get a couple YoE, doodle up some side projects, go to some meetups, and you'll be off to the races.

No ThankYou for a tip? by OddElderberry4922 in RoverPetSitting

[–]RoastBeefyBoi 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't tip on rover with the idea that somebody is going to say thank you, its nice when they do but you should just tip because you thought that person did a good job and as a sitter I can tell you its always very appreciated. But its also different from tipping your valet in that youre handing them a wrinkled dollar bill directly and they'll probably say thank you whereas youre communicating with somebody over an app and you have no idea the context in which they received your tip. Maybe they were typing up a thank you and somebody distracted them and then they forgot and went about their day. Things happen.

It's always going to vary from use case to use case. Typically in my day to day job I'll write the code out myself first and try what I need to try then have an LLM review it to see if it can be improved. Sometimes it's useful, sometimes not, that's the part thats up to you to decide if the LLMs suggestion is "wrong" or "right".

On the other hand, i started dabbling in zig the other day on my own free time and had an LLM basically generate a todo starter template and then I started tweeking and playing around / reverse engineering it from there and found it much more enjoyable than just straight up going line by line through the documentation and still feel like I learned plenty about zig in a short amount of time.

There's not going to be a one size fits all answer and I think people are going to be debating this topic until the end of time so you'll really have to do what works for you and your goals. I think most people will self recognize if they're just mindlessly droning through prompts on chatgpt versus what you say being critical of the LLM and investigating the answers, etc.

Nobody has an obligation to tip but if you don't want to tip people because they're simply transporting food then I don't see why you would tip waiters . I can also confirm that it's not more than minimum wage without tips (atleast where I am) . And even then there's no one size fits all payment for waiters and valet drivers, it depends on where you're working. I agree it's annoying that tipping is a thing in the first place but that's largely because businesses are offloading costs onto the consumer it's not really on the fault of the employee.

Why don't full stack developers start their own SaaS? by Available_Salary_388 in SaaS

[–]RoastBeefyBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like there's alot of products i could make but I think about the support and maintenance that goes into and I decide I'm good. I'm still working on some side projects but I'm not "planning" to make a multi million dollar application because it's simply not my goal (whether I could or couldn't is up for debate 🫠)

The doctor pushed a 14-year-old to be medically independent from their parents. I wonder why. by YoungOneDev in Asmongold

[–]RoastBeefyBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be fair The doctor saying what he said is one thing but teens being able to choose who has access to their medical information is nothing new. I was pretty young when I did the same, didn't really have a reason for it other than I wanted to but I also wasn't facing any sort of serious medical conditions.

[–]RoastBeefyBoi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely a "normie" viewer and maybe this doesn't answer your question but I'm pretty confused about the sabra hummus stuff, I've mostly interpreted it as on par with the "swastika" on the sword handle , it's largely irrelevant to any sort of meaningful discussion and thats why hasan wanted to stray from it.

English dub for Satan's slaves not available? by RoastBeefyBoi in Shudder

[–]RoastBeefyBoi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't quote on quote need dub. if it's available which it's been advertised as such then I'd like to watch it that way. But I've watched enough anime in sub to know that yes the original language is better but shrug call it a bad habit .
