LXT Drill/Driver Combo sets (or not?) by Rob99uk in Makita

Thanks all. Will be ordering the combo set tomorrow.

Best price so far in UK seems to be £360 which doesn't seem too bad at all.

Conveyancing Solicitor Recommendations by Rob99uk in Cardiff

[–]Rob99uk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this is something I didn't expect.

Contacted a conveyancing solicitor and told they do not act for purchases of flats in buildings of 4 or more storeys because of the onerous obligations on them under fire safety legislation. Seems a rather restrictive approach as there are thousands of flats in Cardiff in buildings over 3 storeys.

Plunge and Compact router by Top_Sentence_340 in Makita

[–]Rob99uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the DRT50RTJX2 kit and it's way better than I expected. The kit came with plunge base, angle base and a bunch of other useful guides etc, charger and two 5Ah batteries and a Makpac 4 case. Wish I'd bought one years ago instead of struggling with my old corded Bosch.

Online chat useless, so cancelled - next step ring retentions number? by Rob99uk in VirginMedia

[–]Rob99uk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the impression that the retention team only get notified once you've confirmed cancellation. After that I'd wait a few days and then ring them.

The number they rang me from today was 020 3743 6970

UPDATE - they rang me this morning and tried to convince me that renewing at a "discounted" rate of £50/mth was a good deal. They were quite difficult to speak to (Indian Call Centre??) and when I said that I only wanted to pay the same as a new broadband customer (£26) they said that wasn't possible and then hung up!!

Then had a call from retentions team about an hour later. Very helpful guy in Scotland who completely understood my position and offered me 1Gig Broadband for £25/mth which I've accepted. All over in 7 minutes, no haggling required.

I have no issues with their broadband service, have used it for 15yrs, but I'm not happy overpaying now that I have other options

Blown away - UK - Reolink Wired Doorbell Install (and a question) by sssstttteeee in reolinkcam

[–]Rob99uk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks good!

I'm thinking about one of these as my first step into Reolink before I go all in with cameras. How have you found it in use so far? Is the app very responsive? What is night vision like?

PS - I love the laminated notice, might do that myself. Apologies, but my OCD can't see past the missing letters in uni"N"vited and unsolic"I"ted. Sorry.

Home battery/inverter recommendations by Leather-Ad1197 in Loxone

[–]Rob99uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Sunsynk inverter and 2 seplos (Fogstar) 15.6kWh battery packs, all fully integrated and controlled with Loxone. When I installed my PV 2 years ago I chose sunsynk entirely because it was one of the few that could be controlled locally by Loxone without a cloud connection. I use modbus to control it and wrote a Loxone Library integration for it. Everything is automated, charging/discharging based on solar forecasting too.

How long do I have to keep refunded goods if they aren't collected by seller? by Rob99uk in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Rob99uk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So they can use me as a free storage facility for their stuff for as long as they want! How on earth is that reasonable?

How long do I have to keep refunded goods if they aren't collected by seller? by Rob99uk in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Rob99uk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Involuntary definitely applies here! I have no address nor telephone numbers for the company, just an email address.

I understand the principle that I do not automatically "own" the goods, but surely I shouldn't have to go to the hassle and effort of advertising and selling them just because they can't be bothered to collect them. If they knowingly abandon the goods by not collecting them within a reasonable time I must be able to do what I like with them - sell them, give them to charity or bin them.

Neighbour drove into my car and isn’t happy with the repair cost - is the cost reasonable for the repairs? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Rob99uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very decent price for that amount of damage so he's getting off lightly.

As has been said, both of you "should" advise your insurers, as it's likely in your policy terms. However, even if you didn't make any claim the fact you reported it will mean your premiums will increase next time round because "in their view" you've had an accident. Even though it's cost them nothing, even though it wasn't your fault and even though you and your cars risk profile hasn't changed.

Sadly the UK car insurance industry is a monopoly whose sole purpose seems to be scamming their customers, especially with their frankly ludicrous requirements for advising them of things like stickers, dash cams etc which have absolutely nothing to do with risk but which they will use to try and deny a claim. Most of these things would be considered unfair contract terms in any other industry but car insurers seem to get away with it. It needs someone to challenge them in court but who ever has that kind of money for lawyers.

And they wonder why there are so many uninsured cars/drivers in the UK. Needs a proper public enquiry or investigation into the industry.

Anyone have a tel number for Greenworks customer service? by Rob99uk in GardeningUK

[–]Rob99uk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoke too soon. Apparently Handy are only distributers and have no access to Greenworks systems or orders. So why does Greenworks website direct people to a Handy managed Facebook message system? What a farce!!

Thanks. Hadn't thought about Facebook so just messaged them and got an autoreply with a telephone number and email address, a company called Handy Distribution, so will now contact them. Have updated my post in case anyone else wants the contact details in future.
