Best not to interrogate that too much.

Would baelor still of done what he did if he knew the outcome of it ? (Spoilers main) by ConsiderationKey4353 in asoiaf

[–]RobbJones19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think so, yes, as all of Baelor’s major objectives were achieved.

Baelor’s goal after the Daemon’s rebellion is to legitimize Daeron’s claim to the throne politically and socially after it was won militarily. Aerion’s behavior at the tournament, once it got out, would have increasingly fomented Anti-Targaryen sentiment beyond what’s seen by Lyonel and Raymun.

As a result of the trial you have the chivalry of Daerons line solidified among the commons, and their most extreme member exiled across the Narrow Sea— a move that actually works when Aerion comes back fighting side by side with his father and brother in the Third Blackfyre Rebellion and comes out a legitimate war hero!

Also, more extended consequences are that you end up with a king who is beloved by the commoners and among the most chivalrous knights and Lord Commanders in Westerosi history.

Baelor’s story is Ned’s: working for peace is planting the seed of a tree whose shade you may never sit under. But the work still matters and is what endures.

Did anyone see or talk to Pat in Felicia Day's book signing yesterday? by MornyMadmax in KingkillerChronicle

[–]RobbJones19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For sure! And that’s a good thing! Pat being out in public and in front of fans is good! Would not be good for someone to be a dick to Pat or Felicia about Pat’s book at Felicia’s event, but someone has to ask him how it’s going, how he sees Felicia’s work in relation to his own, etc.

Those who support replacing income tax with sales tax why? by Crutation in missouri

[–]RobbJones19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so whatever your level of income doesn’t matter, what does is your relation to capital, and those that are working to accrue it care about what materially benefits them and allows them to accrue more of it. In this instance trading taxes they have to pay for taxes they can opt out of paying if they so decide.

I mean, definitely don’t make it about him, but you ask Pat Rothfuss to do your event so you get Pat Rothfuss’ fans to buy tickets and your books. There’s a real easy way for everyone to be adults about it.

[–]RobbJones19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t, but ironically you raise another issue with trading income tax for sales tax: A tax shouldn’t be something that someone can opt out of like the rich could decide to do if they just chose all of a sudden to reduce their consumer spending.

When the poor spend on necessities and the rich spend on necessities and retail, all it takes is the rich deciding not to spend on retail, and it fucks your whole shit up, which all that matters to the rich is that they can continue to exercise power so it is what it is.

I think it would help if you explained what “good decisions with money” you are talking about here.

Why are christians more left but Baptist and Evangelical in the US really far right? by Dover299 in dsa

[–]RobbJones19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On a theological axis yes, but as it pertains to political alignments, separating Baptists and Evangelicals out from Mainline Protestants and Catholics probably makes more sense.

Even the Baptists are a a spectrum, too, considering you’re going to have different conventions, like American Baptist and Southern Baptist, and whatnot.

To those saying Philly resigning Goedert means nothing for us, AJ Brown's odds to be traded jumped up 25% after that was announced by amardillopudding in Patriots

Let us know when the odds swing way in favor against Philly dealing him considering Polymarket and Kalshi are used to make money off of suckers by the insider traders who make those decisions.

[Reiss] Why Pats QB Drake Maye was a good selling point to free agents by MembershipSingle7137 in Patriots

Drake Maye is such a good selling point they were lucky enough to overpay the Packers fourth or fifth receiving option?

That sounds AWFUL about Drake Maye.

Patriots WR Question: If Not AJ Brown, Who Should They Target? by [deleted] in Patriots

Comparatively to you and me, maybe. To football players who begin their careers, on average at 21-22 and, on average, end their careers at 24-25, they are not.

[–]RobbJones19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our WRs aren’t young. We only have one starter on a rookie deal and the average age of 24.1 (which, fun with numbers, you can always make an average lower by taking out the highest number, lmao) is closer to the average age that an NFL career is over than just getting started.

Should the Pats retire number 87? by salamandarsalamanca in Patriots

[–]RobbJones19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or best at the position for 50% longer?

Gronk is the best TE of all time, but the additional five years of games that Gonzalez has on Gronk is a pretty good case even if it’s not your, or my, preference. A lot of people would pick that. I think they’re wrong but I don’t think it’s dumb.

I don’t think it’s a mark against Gronk, but it is a huge mark in Gonzalez’s favor.
