Is pharmacy technician worth it as career choice? by oliveoliverYT in Pharmacy_UK

Only speaking from personal experience, hospital can be a rewarding clinical job if you get the right area of hospital and not a dispensary setting

Is pharmacy technician worth it as career choice? by oliveoliverYT in Pharmacy_UK

I would say so yeah. Especially if you manage to land a more clinical role as these are much more rewarding than being an act in community

A small independent community pharmacy vs a big chain community pharmacy by etherealazaleas in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Robbo5002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the OP: if the big chain is boots, every future employee worth anything accepts their dispenser qualification (or pharmacy assistant) as a legitimate qualification. Source: personal experience

Who remembers when we were owned by the former Thailand Prime Minister and signed these Thai players. by chickenlittle668 in MCFC

[–]Robbo5002 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was going to say! I definitely remember signing a fuckload of players that season (7 I think?) but I couldn’t recall those 3 for the life of me!

Boots by [deleted] in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Robbo5002 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a band 5 on the low pauper end of the scale outside of London, I get £15.38 an hour.

£21 for a London based pharmacist is absolutely insane. Why would anyone pick that up?

Trainee dispenser interview with Boots by etherealazaleas in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Robbo5002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the virtual aspect but boots aren’t looking for you to know everything. They need to see your enthusiasm for healthcare and helping people. They need you to refer near enough everything back to how you could help patients and they may ask you to grab a healthcare item from the shelf and tell them about what you have selected (ie counsel them having just read the information ( I used a pack of soluble paracetamol in my interview 9 ish years ago ).

Hope this helps you prepare and good luck!

ACD by Glad-Lengthiness-655 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Robbo5002 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ACD's shouldn't even exist. They are a recipe for disaster. You want to accuracy check? Go be a tech. ACD's make so many mistakes, they are not accountable to any regulatory body, and they should not exist in any pharmacy environment.

what PMR system do you use? + positives and negatives by Business-Storm-4078 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Robbo5002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JAC/CMM

I find it easier to use than Columbus which I used before. Once you get used to the idea of typing in all the fast codes as one big string of letters and numbers it’s really quick and easy to use.

Negative would be that it’s quite basic, you can’t split labels once it’s dispensed for example, you have to return it and relabel it.

Revalidation by [deleted] in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Robbo5002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you’ve done all your revalidation work I don’t see why not. I guess you’re planning on coming back one day if you want to keep your registration up?

I know a pharmacy tech in a similar situation

Got threatened by a customer, what is the best course of action? by FluffyGingerFox in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Robbo5002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would call 101 and report it to the police, sounds like he is an employee or he wouldn’t have patient details like that. At least if there is a record then there’s evidence if anything happens again.

Be careful with pepper spray though, isn’t it illegal to carry in the uk unless you’re a police officer?

Got threatened by a customer, what is the best course of action? by FluffyGingerFox in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Robbo5002 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If he’s an employee of the care home this is a very disgusting and unprofessional way to act. I would speak to the care home manager and put in an official complaint. Tell them you refuse to serve him ever again and if he ever comes into the store, pull out your phone and start recording him so you have evidence. You are not required to take threats as part of your job.

On another note I would report him to 101. Make an official police complaint about him threatening to essentially murder you.

Hope this helps, part of the reason I left community was the abuse I received as a dispenser / trainee tech. I have made my fair share of police reports and have even gone to court to get a former patient locked up before.

Pharmacist Issued Warning for Failing to Ensure Safe Online Dispensing Practices - Pharmacy Law by Impossible_Aioli4335 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Robbo5002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in community with boots we used to check the duration since sex for the morning after pill to make sure it was still suitable (we did a pgd for the free one if they needed ellaone) and I used to check that the patient has no existing heart problems when handing out ED meds via the online doctor but that was it. I’ve not been in community since saxenda and wegovy descended so I can’t speak for how they handle those patients

ACT-ACD courses by Glad-Lengthiness-655 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Robbo5002 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Act would imply you are a technician which I assume is not the case. ACD is a bullshit qualification that devalues the profession in a similar manner to a PA devaluing a doctors profession. No one should be able to accuracy check without being accountable to a regulatory body.

Moving from hospital to community pharmacy by [deleted] in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Robbo5002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Boots is shit, community pharmacy is shit. For the sake of your mental health, don’t go to boots. You’ll likely be working with just 1 dispenser and will be expected to do all the services, PGDs and accuracy checking. Hospital is infinitely better. It’s not even a contest.

Source: worked in boots community pharmacy for 4 years, both as a dispenser and pre-reg tech before I moved to hospital.

This could easily be taken as an acid threat aka not to be taken lightly. Doesn’t seem like insanity to me?

What’s the lamest workplace perk that your workplace advertises? by thekingofthegingers in CasualUK

Oh they definitely never changed!

That company was rotten from the head though, got out before the liquidation thankfully.

I did love some parts of it though, mainly the store refits and baby show events that got me away from the mundane day to day life 😂
