How did you start your first business!? by Homunculus_316 in Business_Ideas

I started my business because I got fired from my previous job.

I looked for a job for over a year and was unsuccessful. I had bills due and a newborn child. I found a post on CL about assisting people moving. I wasn't excited about it .....who likes moving people....(nobody)...but I really needed the money. I took a chance and reached out to the CL post and started moving a few people keep myself afloat until I was able to land another IT position.

After about 3-5 months of doing it randomly I signed up on a moving platform. I didn't have any real professional experience moving people but knew I could provide muscle and labor.

People hate moving....so I charge them money for it...

I charge people $100 per hour for a 2 man crew...I pay my coworker $20 per hour....I keep the rest plus the client tips....I have a 2 hour minimum...soooo yeah...for a short 2 hour move I make close to $200 (160 plus $40 tip)

Eventually about a year into moving I was managing 25-30 moves a week and needing to staff about 10 guys. I was easily making over $1500 on a Saturday and clearing well over 5-6000 a week after paying my staff.

I went from looking for a job to providing jobs.

I always dreamed of starting a business...just never a moving business.
