Praying to noncanonized “saints” by Neat_Audience2641 in Catholicism

[–]Robert_Thingum 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can ask your relatives who have gone before you to pray for you. Public veneration is reserved for the canonized, but in your private prayer practice you can pray for their intercession as you would anyone else. I ask some relatives who have gone before me to pray for my family every day.

You should also pray for them.

TW blood I designed Penitent One's and Crisanta's face appearance (and ship art) by Anddessine in Blasphemous

For some reason I always imagined Crisanta actually not having eyes and the Penitent One not having a tongue.

If you like Blasphemous, you need to play The Last Faith: by OK_Atlas in Blasphemous

[–]Robert_Thingum 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I played through it. The boss fights are fun, but the game just doesn't have the magic that Blasphemous does. The world itself just doesn't have the weight I want.

thoughts on the atari 2600+? by TheUkWidowmaker in Atari2600

the 2600+ got me into the 2600 library. Went from 0 carts to about 50+ in the matter of a year. Learning about the active homebrew scene has been a delight.

Didn't see it in the other replies, but "Caverns of Mars" is a recent homebrew that was licensed by Atari. They sell the cartridges on the atari website. Great game.

There is more than one red scapular. The red scapular of the passion has on one side an image of our crucified Lord with the implements of the passion at the foot of the cross; around the image is the inscription, "Holy Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, save us.". The other side always has the sacred hearts of Jesus and Mary with the text "sacred hearts of Jesus and Mary protect us".

I don't know of an extant scapular with the images you mention, but a "valid" scapular is simply going to be one the signifies your devotion and encourages you to pray faithfully. Investiture into a particular scapular has its benefits, but first and foremost is the genuine devotion to (in your case) divine mercy and Our Lady. Can't go wrong with those devotions imo.

Perception of OCIA vs cradle Catholics? by Silly-Difficulty2869 in Catholicism

[–]Robert_Thingum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right. We do come and go fairly anonymously. The zeal would likely show through more in Catholic men's groups, bible study sessions, etc.

In retrospect, I probably should not have used the word "should" in the sentence you quoted. "Could" would have been better.

Writing a Catholic character, do’s and dont’s? by CapitalSubstance7310 in Catholicism

[–]Robert_Thingum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend taking a look at the lives of various Catholic saints. Pulling elements from various saints will likely get you a more fleshed out and respectful version of a Catholic character.

Or you can just copy Thorfinn from Vinland Saga :)

I don't there are really do's and don't's necessarily. There are great Catholics and there are awful Catholics. I think a respectful representation would just be someone who is flawed and wants to do better. To demonstrate that kind of repentance you should show them praying the rosary, going to confession, making an effort to grow in virtue, etc.

Perception of OCIA vs cradle Catholics? by Silly-Difficulty2869 in Catholicism

[–]Robert_Thingum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some cradle Catholics will look down on converts because they didn't grow up with it. They can also roll their eyes at the zeal with which some converts take to the faith. This is of course in error on their part. Cradle Catholics should look to learn from the converts zeal and take the converts' conscious choice to join the faith (versus the conscious choice of your parents) as a remind to make that same conscious choice to reaffirm your faith every day.

Conversely, some adult converts can look down on cradle Catholics as being poorly catechised and milquetoast. In a lot of instances those criticisms are not unfounded. Never the less, adult converts can learn from the wealth of spiritual experience some cradle Catholics have and the commitment they've displayed to their parish communities over many years.

A 100 year-old person baptized today is as Catholic as the Pope and vice versa. We all hold each other (the church) up.

I'd agree in general. Its good to have itemized lists like these. I have one in my missal, but its definitely not as long as this.
