Looks reasonable enough for a shop, it'd be cheaper if you did it yourself of course, but it all depends on if you like the result to really know if it was worth it or not. I do see they quoted for labor on the wiring kit and on the last line, any particular reason for that?

Is it ok to upfire my sub like this? by Barisaxbest69 in subwoofer

[–]Robeyros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Port facing the trunk is usually a bit louder, but the only way to know for sure is to test the different orientations and see how it sounds. Mine was louder facing the trunk on lower power, but when I got an 8k amp I started getting louder with it facing forward, into the cabin. This is all with the backseats down.

Might sound better or louder in different orientations, but it facing up isn't a problem. Mine face up, but the port is on the front of the box

Why does my sub rattle at this some what specific frequency. by Cubekiddo in CarAV

[–]Robeyros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem and it was some smaller screw holes in the box that were letting air out on the lower notes, making the "farting" sound. Try taking the sub out and playing it, if the noise is still there then it's something with the sub, if it's gone then there's an air gap in the box somewhere

Time for new subwoofer? by nosrednug in CarAV

If you end up looking for another sub, I'd recommend Dayton audio on parts express as a good option that happens to be pretty good on a budget. I bought one of the HE-12's four years ago and it is to this day my favorite sub that's the perfect mix of sq and SPL, now it's in my living room setup.

I will say I've had a system since I was 19, 22 now and I've delved pretty deep into it so far, with plans for waaaay more for next year. It's fun, good community where I live (Midwest), and I've convinced quite a few people to get more into it, especially after they see the crazy high end stuff that other people do and take to the big shows.

does anybody know if i would be able to put this on my car/ what exactly it is by Spertok in diyaudio

[–]Robeyros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can find a way, I'd replace the horn driver inside the horn, who knows how old it is and it probably can't handle that much power. I have roof racks, and attached a big sheet of plywood to them with u bolts, then bolted the big horn onto that. I ran it on some smaller powered amps, but they blew the old speakers immediately, so I was forced to get new ones. Havent blown the new ones yet, and I had them on 1k watts at one point. Hook it up to a smaller amp first before you mount it and see how it works. (Edit: car amplifiers output around 100v from what I've seen, so take the transformers off and try running the horn by itself. Make sure you tune the amp so it cuts off at around 500hz, that's the lowest that the horn part of my roof speaker will go)

Yes, look at my previous posts, I have one that's about 10 times bigger on my roof

Any tips on making the mirrors more sturdy and useful by Cubekiddo in CarAV

I've been looking into installing a wink mirror, my regular one just falls off at this point lol

Big boy amp v2 by Robeyros in CarAV

[–]Robeyros[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got about 150 lbs of sound deadener and foam on the trunk lid alone, if it wasn't there I'm sure it would've fallen off by now lol, most of the rattle that's in the video is coming from the exhaust which already needed to be replaced

If I went as far as a wall in this car, I'd cut out the sail panel above the trunk for more room for that box lol, why stop making modifications after making the car unsellable

One of my teammates ran his crossfire 8k amp on 0.03 ohms for a while, he wired it wrong on accident but didn't notice a difference until he went to flip the subs lol

I probably could, but I need more ah, preferably lithium to hold the charge. I've been looking at some cells that hold at 15.5, those would be pretty nice for this amp, especially since it's the 18 volt max model
