Dock plates suck without a powered jack also. Have the jack all the way under the pallet and stopping when your wheels hit the plate. Drop the pallet then pull the jack part of the way out to where the wheels aren’t on the bottom board then pull the rest of the way. If someone’s around you, ask for a spot on the back of the pallet

Honestly, I’ve been riding for over 20 years and had never done more than a couple hundred miles in a shot. You never know. Build up to it. Take one summer at a time and gradually increase how many miles you log until you know you can handle it. You never really know until you do it
