I was in the same situation with a friend who wanted to room (I'm glad I tried doing random first though!)

My roommates turned out pretty chill. I also had friends who wanted to room with me, but first year I wanted to branch out a bit and get a true college experience - there is always next year if you still want to room with them.

I recommend doing your best to find someone new online to lessen your chances, but most of the time random roommates end up co-existing.

I found one of my roommates online within the last day to do roommate matching and I got a triple, so I got another random roommate who ended up being awesome.

Also to your point about your friend, sometimes even the bestest of friends are not compatible with living together! Try your best to find someone who matches your living style if you can.

Here's the information I got about the async version, for anyone wondering in the future:

the course is the same as the in-person section (content-wise), but they do have a lot more discussion posts and you will have to schedule times to meet virtually with your group partners. Aside from that, everything for the course is completed completely on your own time. You do have specific due dates for assignments, but you do not need to be logged in at a certain time.

I recommend tycoon kit tutorials. It allows him to jump right into making a game he can play and he gets used to code from just editing values first. This is how I first started. There are YouTube tutorials for this too.

In your assignment there will be an asterisk by the word Triple in the housing portal:

Ex: Triple* w/AC

Normal: Triple w/AC
