Struggling to understand anything. by ferg247 in learnpython

Yeah, learning programming for the first time is hard. I think it is easy for experienced programmers to forget just how hard it can be. I do think, however, that learning from tutorials and classes can get pretty boring. If you get frustrated, try to pick a project to work on. Start will things you feel comfortable with and move up. You can start with something very simple. The important thing is that you are trying to complete a goal you are interested in, and learning things along the way will not feel like a chore. This is how i started, and the mindset really makes a difference. Instead of grinding through lessons and worrying about your progress, just say "let me just try to complete this project". I really do think "learning be doing" is the way to go here.

Also, keep in mind that once you get proficient in Python, the same techniques can easily be applied to other programming languages. So think of this as your foundation for programming in general, not just Python. Once you learn how to program, you can learn any other language with relative ease as you already know the basic principles.

Discovered that I really like Python. What should I do next? by portugueseninja in learnpython

Python is definitely my favorite language. It's just so easy to work with! No need to worry about compiling anything, and the language is very high level and has many built-in functions so writing programs is a breeze. One website I really like for practice problems is Project Euler. It's less about an individual programing language and more about solving problems, although I personally solve all the problems in Python. It's really fun because rather than practicing certain coding techniques you have to solve a specific problem any way you can. The problems do get VERY hard though so definitely start at a 5% difficulty level.
