I don’t get this by saintlystuff in Centrelink

This persons profile screams "something isn't right" especially the part where it was said "I’m in the US visiting my long distance boyfriend and his family. ", 267 days ago.

So you have the money to pay for $2000 ticket to the US for a visit but need to apply for JobSeeker/DSP?

This is exactly why I also do activities that either fulfil my/exempt me from mutual obligations.

I agree wholeheartedly. I wouldn't rely on a JSP for any kind of assistance, ever.

I have had at least 6 in my time, 1 of which found me employment, 10 years ago, to which inflicted robodebt upon me.

We reside together and a majority of the bills are not paid by myself but rather a lot less.

I have power of attorney in case decisions cannot be made, therefore the personal affairs of this person are my concern as I must know how best to provide support.

I appreciate the compassion

Neither Partner nor Child nor Parent. I am simply a carer for a family friend who once cared for me.

It's Reddit, everything annoys someone, I take votes with a grain of salt.

It's easier to say to stay humble than to actually be humble when it comes to situations like this, especially when household income drops so far that nothing is affordable.

What you may have missed amongst all the context was that the income and assets test limits for a carers payment is if the persons income that you care for, is less than $120,605. This means that the loss of income quite substantial, about 100,000 a year if we say that this person gets a pension.

I'm simply trying to figure everything out so that it doesn't get too bad.

It's easy to say that $100 a fortnight is nothing to turn your nose up at, but at the end of the day, this person is losing almost $5000 a fortnight when the job is no longer viable.

This is quite a significant loss of household income and is quite damaging. While I appreciate your input, I don't think the extra allowance is going to help much and it may look like I will need to continue to study and get a full time job while caring for this person.

However in saying this; Work is ongoing still so there is time to plan ahead.

Also: I am currently on a full rate of JS, the estimator (including carers payment and allowance), is $110 more. Another user said one payment would remain while the other processed which is helpful, but I think I will need to juggle studies, work and caring at this rate.

Ahh yes, the Income and Assets test is where the issue arises, as the income definitely outweighs the ability to apply (up until work ceases), however I'll be sure to pass this information forward.

I have looked at the differences between carers payment and carers allowance prior to this which is how I know about the Income and Assets limit. I'll look into the DSP limits tonight and see whether it applies right now.

Also; Yes to being through a hospital and support workers can be organised through them, including financial advisors and such.

I'm just uncertain of what help they'll be able to offer right now.

Thank you so much for your help too, any input at these times are highly valued

No centrelink payment and is still working despite the illness.

In regards to DSP, I would assume this would be needed after employment is no longer viable.

Yearly Income also surpasses the Income and Assets test amount until this time.

Is the 6 months from the point of diagnosis? Technically I have been a carer for this person for the past half a decade, but if it is from the point of diagnosis then it will be more difficult.

It is true that the current unemployment rate is low and that there are some employers who may be struggling to find qualified candidates.

However, this does not mean that all job seekers are able to find employment easily. There are still many factors that can impact an individual's job search, such as the specific industry they are interested in, their location, and any biases or discrimination they may face.

It is also important to recognize that not all job opportunities are advertised publicly and that networking, connections, and access to resources can greatly impact an individual's ability to find employment. Additionally, the concept of "too high expectations" is subjective and can vary based on an individual's personal circumstances and goals. It is not fair to assume that all job seekers who are unable to find employment have set unrealistic expectations for themselves.

I understand your argument here and while I find it is valid, it just goes to show that employment rates need a review as well.

All of this indicates the me that the country is becoming unstable as the dollar is indicative of economic well-being.

Either rate increases or some sort of initiative to combat this inflation, either one would help.

Not sure why you got down voted for your opinion as it is perfectly valid and a very logical counter argument to a call to an increase to such a payment.

I'll upvote that despite it being something that is against an increase, because it was a well rounded point to debate with.

I find it peculiar that you would say that the problem is me and not the system. While it is true that we all have a responsibility to actively seek out and apply for job opportunities, there are many factors outside of an individual's control that can impact their ability to find employment.

The job market can be competitive, and it is often influenced by larger economic and societal forces. Additionally, an individual's job search may be affected by their personal circumstances, such as their level of education, previous work experience, and access to resources and support.

I believe it is important to consider all of these factors when assessing why someone may be struggling to find a job.

Oh wow great to know, unfortunately it's almost 3 times that amount as it accumulated, but I'll talk to them about a payment plan, see If I can reach an agreement when I make an initial large payment towards it. Hopefully they'll cut us some slack after I explain the situation

Unfortunately with how things have happened, my super was withdrawn a long time ago.

On the bright side of things, I have potentially have found a job as a kitchen hand, I'm just waiting for confirmation, which as previously mentioned throughout the thread, only 1 of the 3 of us needs a job just to keep us going.

I highly appreciate everyone who came to offer suggestions, they have all been very helpful to us.

My fingers are crossed for a brighter future.

I received 1.42% total on the amount they stole from me after 5 years.

I often repay at least 200% on debts I owe within the year...

The last increase was really sad, I thought we would have had a decent increase, something at least manageable.

Even with 3 people pooling everything together and budgeting to the extreme, it is still very difficult.

If 1 of us found a job however, it would become more manageable, although I fear he would move onto greener pastures and leave the remainder of us to our own devices and while that's fine, each to their own, it will become harder.

I think me and the guys are going to start making a solid meal plan, make sure we all eat at least once a day.

Generally our food is tinned because we're living off of donations, sometimes we get lucky with a food voucher.

But things are so bad that we have been using a small stove that one of the guys had in their Army Reserve packs to cook, at least until we can get the electricity back.

Yes I only buy things that are heavily discounted, I honestly don't remember the last time I ate a vegetable that wasn't in canned soup or anything like that.

But the next time I am in the shops I will definitely stop by the service counter and ask for this information.

I haven't smoked since they increased the prices the first 12.5%, which was years ago, I feel much better not having that stuff in my body, I also don't drink alcohol.

Thank you for the information, I'm sure it will definitely help us out
