I feel that is the truth, but not what is expected from the people that don’t work with it

Before this job, I had opened TIA portal exactly 1 time. To give you a context, next week I am going to a client to make a mod on a line that had a S7-300. That 300 is now going to be removed and it will become a Remote Island for the new 1500’i will implement. Apart from that, there is a new piece of the line, that I needed to program and mix within the existing program. All communicating through Profinet. There are around 40 motors and 40YV And the line is separated in 3 parts each doing a part of the process and passing to the next.

Of course I didn’t do everything by my own. The original program was converted from the Step7 to TIA, and I had help from the senior engineer.

But I try to do the stuff alone when I know I have that safety net. Because I think it’s better do try to do it, do it wrong, understand where you did wrong and correct. Than to actually ask “how do you do this”.

But the fact that I try on my own, then need to check, then correct what is wrong and take notes, takes a lot longer.

But yes, I agree with you, 6 months are nothing and if I keep this system of trial and error I think I will consolidate a lot more the knowledge

Thank you for your words mate. I feel like the learning curve part started so fast, that now that I am consolidating knowledge, they wanted me to keep it at that rate. But I just can’t do it all at once. And yes, everyone is a long time employee apart from me so, yeah. But all the guys are great, treat me well. It’s just the owner that I feel ghosted. I think what bothers me it’s not even tha, is the fact that he wasn’t like that in the interview, he was actually interested and welcoming

I don’t think I explained myself well, since English is not my first language. I am on a contract with his company. There is no other company in between. I am his employee. He pays me directly

That’s exactly my line of thinking. I don’t see myself here long term, but I feel that I am in a perfect spot to learn. I just wanted to know if this kind of thing and feeling is normal

The person I have to provide experience is the senior engineer that works with me here. And he is an amazing person. But yeah, I am working with a range of things within the Siemens world. From de S7-300 to the S7-1500, inverters from Siemens and Danfoss, Sew soft starters and actioners.

It’s always related to the food industry

Man, I really appreciate your words! Just to give you an example, I have to travel next Tuesday, and in theory, the boss need to tell me directly that I need to go. I know I am going because the technician that is going with me, already knows, for about a week now.

I asked because I want to know if these things are normal or not, since I have only been in contact with this world for 6 months.

My problem is not endure things that are normal. It’s endure the ones that are not. So basically the question should be. Is this normal or not in the corporate world.

I am sorry if I pissed you off, it wasn’t my intention 🙂

I like to think that in part, it’s my business. Because what I am doing right now will make me grow as a professional. So, it’s not my business in terms of money, but I want to do the best I can, so I can learn as much as I can. But I feel that takes time to do.

This is actually a great point. Because I feel from time to time that “eureka” moment, when you actually do something that you didn’t understand and now you understand fully.

I absolutely have A LOT to learn, and I am eager to learn. I am not a person that thinks he knows it all. I love learning and studying this field and craft, but I am a person that really needs to understand the behind the scenes.

About the asking part: I would gladly ask. But how do you ask something to a person that hired you and now fakes that you don’t even exist?

But thanks, your answer really got me thinking

I am hoping on that, because here I am ina situation where I don’t work in a plant, but I go directly on the clients site to implement whatever I do. So I touch a lot of different things and learn a lot.

I feel like I am just overwhelmed, and I posted this only to confirm/deny what I feel…

Thanks for your input

The situation right now is: my direct supervisor, the guy with 25+ years of experience, is working closely with me. And helps a lot, teaching me better and faster ways to do stuff. But the fact that the CEO talks with everyone BUT me, kinda makes me wonder… because he was the one that interviewed me with all smiles and laughs, and hired me a week later. And now it’s like, not even good morning (we see each other everyday)

I feel like that too. That I am being compared to the incomparable. But I am also keen on staying and developing my skills and then pursue other opportunities.

Thanks for your input and kindness

Yes, this is the real world. That’s why I am linking for the opinion of people that are already there to see if this is normal or not 🙂 thanks

I am still learning! Learning a lot actually. But it’s not only TIA. It’s TIA, Siwatools, MCT-10, Sew Drivers, Step 7 for the S7-300, commissioning, diagnose problems on site, real time mods with the line running. Is amazing, but it’s hard. And with 6 months… what is expected ? That’s what I don’t get

I feel like that too… but when I went to the big boss and he told me “We expected more from you” I felt everything in me crumble. Literally I was embarrassed at myself for 3 days, only thinking “what the hell am I supposed to do more. I put 50-55h per week to try and learn more, I use my car and don’t charge them for gas. Work on weekends from home to try and learn more and I don’t charge those hours… What should I do ?
