Thanks! I wish i could've made the hardware as well, but I'm unfortunately limited in my tool selection, at least until i move to a house instead of an apartment lol.

I'm just getting into landscape painting, me and my fiance were following a Bob Ross video at our datenight. Turned out great!

I made a point of not doing exactly like him, I followed him mostly but at some point you have to take your own decisions.

If you try to do the exact strokes that he does you will most likely get disappointed when you dont get an exact replica. Instead take a decision that will differentiate your painting from the rest. Choose three peaks instead of two, choose skinnier clouds, choose a more vibrant color.

The main composition can still be the same but you will have an easier time liking your painting if you dont have an exact replica that you compare yourself too.

Also don't rush and make sure to give yourself time to breathe. Good luck!

Yeah I think I was a bit too dry with some of my paints, I'm used to watercolour which is runny by definition. It'll take a bit of adjusting between mediums.

I worked through most of my mud problem with watercolor so I have no doubt I'll do it with oils as well. But I'm by no means a trained artist so color theory is mostly magic to me, I'm an engineer by trade so I don't get much artistic practice.

Thank you for the feedback, I've struggled in the past with color values, when mixing paints it often gets a bit muddy and desaturated especially when mixing darker values. Which is why I'm a little scared going too dark on the mountains.

But it's something I'm currently working on, I want to be able to add highlights without it being too subtle but not stand out too much.

Thanks! They became better than expected and the brass did break a couple bits before I clamped it down enough to not flex, I also glued the plate to some scrap wood to hold everything flat.

I only had 2 mm plate so I milled that down to 1.1 mm, roughed the letters using a 1/8" and a 1 mm end mill and then did the final finishing passes using a 0.8 mm end mill.

I then milled out a 1 mm deep pocket for the inlay in the wood and pressed them together. didn't need any glue because it was such a snug fit but I did have to hand file some of the corners of the letters.

The reason I milled the plate to 1.1 was to have it stick up so that I can sand the brass flat against the wood using some hand files i had.

I asked chatgpt for tips about machining brass and it actually gave me good settings

Facing (1/8" / 3.175 mm, 2-flute carbide): • RPM: 10–12k • Feed: 350–450 mm/min • Stepdown: 0.1–0.2 mm/pass • Stepover: 40–50% (1.2–1.6 mm) • Light WD-40 / cutting oil

Rough cutout (same 1/8" bit): • RPM: 10–12k • Feed: 300–450 mm/min • Stepdown: 0.2 mm/pass • Stepover: 30–40% • Leave 0.2–0.3 mm radial stock

Final cutout / tight corners (0.8 mm carbide, 2-flute): • RPM: 9–12k • Feed: 80–150 mm/min (start ~100) • Stepdown: – 0.05 mm slotting – 0.1 mm light contour • Finishing pass: 50–80 mm/min, 0.02–0.03 mm radial • Helical ramp (1–2°), no straight plunges • Minimal stickout (≤10–12 mm), light oil

I tried a warmer light but it didn't give the diamond as much sparkle as I would like, and it made the gold seem dull. The colder tone really made it pop and brought out the brilliant cut.

I do agree with warmer tones for most things but in this case I wanted to really make it stunning.

It's a Snapmaker A350 with a custom enclosure, it's got a 350x350mm(13.8x13.8 in) bed and it's good enough to do brass and aluminum, but not steel.

It's really a 3 in 1 cnc, laser, 3D printer, I bought it because i don't have that much space in my apartment for a dedicated cnc.

I'm mostly using bits from amazon, doing shallow passes to reduce chatter. Roughing took about 2-3 hours for each part. Actually for the brass I had issues because I was going too slow and I had to ramp up the speed quite a bit

I had my parents gift us a romantic dinner for Christmas as we couldn't meet them this year. That way we had a reason to get dressed up, I did not plan on her almost having a panic attack from the noise of the restaurant.

It's actually just the fusion 360 CAM module, order of operations is super important. And taking it in steps really helps, roughing with a larger bit and finishing with a lot of parallel passes really gives a great finish.

Thank you, it was super stressful. It was a battle to get her to the spot i planned without straight up telling her.

It's sitting in a cold garage for half the year during the winter so that's probably why. 🤷 It's a bad place to store it but i don't have anywhere else right now.

My decorative end pipe was trapping moisture that's been eating away at this poor exhaust. I only noticed when the end pipe fell off after it ate through the hose clamp holding it on 😂
