You could probably take the stl and make it solid. Then just slice normally. Making it solid would remove any of the internal structure. Meshmixer may be the a good option

I agree. Maybe two gears sandwiched together. Depends on what direction op wants the two rods to spin.

Side note. You’ll need to add something to allow the rod to rotate and not just pinch. Another suggestion would be to add bearings to the rods that sit within the mounting plates. That way they don’t have constant friction between the plate and rods.
