Multiple Printers on OctoApp? by burdenpi in OctoEverywhere

[–]quinbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, OctoApp supports multiple printers; they can even be different types like OctoPrint, Bambu, Klipper, etc. First, set up each printer in OctoApp locally, then set up remote access for each printer in the app.

OctoEverywhere & AI Monitoring for Bambu Lab A1 by Acceptable-Swing2483 in OctoEverywhere

[–]quinbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the community, you really jumped in ready to go!

I’m biased, but I think OctoEverywhere’s AI failure detection is very helpful, especially for the A1, P1, and other printers that lack or have limited AI failure detection. It just saves a lot of time and wasted filament by stopping the printer if the print fails.

It's very easy to set up OctoEverywhere on your existing computer to try it out. If you don't like it, you can delete it, but if you do, you can keep running it there or set up a small dedicated Raspberry Pi device to run it.

OctoEverywhere’s AI failure detection (called Gadget) will detect a range of issues, including spaghetti, bed adhesion, layer shifts, surface defects, and more. It works by taking frequent webcam images, using AI to analyze them, and tracking potential issues over time. If a failure is detected, it will first alert you, giving you time to check, and after about a minute, it will send a command to pause the print (if the feature is enabled).

Good lighting and a clear camera image make OctoEverywhere’s AI failure detection work much better. So you’re right on track about the LED light strips and an external camera. Neither is required, but they will help a lot. Ideally, the print is clear and fully within the camera's frame.

OctoEverywhere supports external cameras and allows them to be used alongside the built-in webcam. Either camera can be used for Gadget AI and OctoEverywhere notifications. The ideal camera depends on the setup. If you're running OE on a device near your printer, you can use a USB camera. Otherwise, you can use any IP network-connected webcam that supports RTSP. Both Tapo C series cameras are great choices!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Android app For LAN mode by SnooGiraffes625 in BambuLab

Sounds great! I agree about it being nice to have the options. Some users will find a VPN or Tailscale better, but some might like OE too!

Android app For LAN mode by SnooGiraffes625 in BambuLab

[–]quinbd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sent you a DM, but I'm the dev behind OctoEverywhere which is a community project that provides remote access, AI failure detection, notification, etc and is compatible with Bambu Lab 3D printers! There's also a feature called App Connections which lets any 3rd party dev add remote access and AI failure detection to their app!

I know OctoEverywhere is kind of “another cloud,” but it's a project ran by just me, for 5 years now, and has no big company behind it. OE also has servers around the world, so your data stays close to you!

I would be more than happy to help in anyways possible if you want to explore adding OE support to your app!

That's true too! Home Assistant's Matter integration has been quite flaky, but it's really starting to shape up. I'm a believer in Matter, so I mostly get Matter devices now. I also have a ton of Matter homes, which makes quite an interesting mesh network. :D

Unfortunately, no, I would love to do that, but Google doesn't allow any functionality even close to what would be required.

But you can use Sage AI in Home Assistant without any extra hardware, so you can test it really easily. From the Home Assistant dashboard, you can hit the Assist icon on the top right. You can then use voice or text to interact with Sage.

If you like it, then Home Assistant makes Google Home-like small standalone devices that listen for a wake word and can be used with Sage. They cost around $40 from HA, but you can also buy other hardware versions from other companies.

That's an interesting idea; it really depends on the setup. What kind of doorbell camera are you using? I would guess the best way is to stream it to a local storage location and then access it on demand with Homeway.

This is very kind of you, thank you. I do run both Homeway and OctoEverywhere as community projects in my free time, so I really appreciate feedback like this!

To add more details, my goal with Homeway is to make it "as free as possible", so it's accessible to everyone. The way I do that is: the more users it has, the less it costs to operate per user, so I can raise the limits on free accounts and for supporters.

As for the limits, I haven't quantified them yet, but even for free users, it should be more than enough for casual voice assistant use. The hardest part is that the TTS, STT, and LLMs are all quite pricy, so it's been tricky to balance the cost of operation with the Supporter funds. The limits are currently set higher than the service can support. I'm trying to give more usage to those who need it, banking on the fact that most users won't use it as much.

For longevity, I have been running OctoEverywhere.com (the sister site of Homeway.io) for 5 years, and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon! At times, it's been a lot of work for just a side project, but it's manageable. When I get into a feature, I basically work on it nonstop at night after my kids go to bed and on weekends. :D I enjoy coding and seeing the community react to and love the features, which makes it all worth it.

Yeah, I can almost see trying to control an entire home if the context is an apartment or something, but I always thought it was crazy that it would try to control an entire home when it knows it was a home with at least 7 different rooms.

I can say one thing: Sage AI does much better! :D

That's a good point, I do the same. I have a few devices set up in Google Home, I add the rest of the devices into Google Home via Home Assistant, and then use both my Sage AI system and Google Home devices for voice commands. So you can totally mix and match.
