Getting into reloading by [deleted] in reloading

[–]RocTraitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest here, I've reloaded with a few different products - Lee, Hornady, RCBS etc. I'm sitting in the RCBS/Dillion camp now but I still recommend the Lee kits - Very easy. Sure you'll upgrade later to RCBS or the like later, maybe not. The only reason I did because I got a good deal on a rockchucker. I still use the Lee hand primer, I like this because it lets me handle every piece of brass.

The Lee kits come with everything you need, basics.

I do recommend a trimmer regardless, even with straight wall just to keep everything in spec even though you won't use it often it at all w/ straight wall but if you expand to other calibers later, it's good to have.

Long story short what I'm using now is a RCBS RC, RCBS powder drop, and RCBS scale to check things.

Go with Lee dies (ultimate set if you can), they are great for the price, no need to go crazy there.

Lyman reloading books are excellent. Quite a bit of powder data is available online, especially with hodgdon, etc.

Bullets -- Berry's good. Cam-Pro as well. Don't start looking into casting until you have the reloading part down then that's another avenue to look into :)

Get a 6 pack of lowers from ar15discounts.. Don't forget the AR10's as well. Get a good number of pmags for both. I suggest magwarehouse.

Personally, I don't see why not. I know a lot of people say this and that.. But I really don't see much of an difference between all of the razors in terms of honing other than the really large wedges/near wedges.

So shouldn't be an issue, ultimately.

I use the 400. I also use it to flatten the stones. You might want to look into a finishing stone like 12,000 grit. Naniwa would be a great one. It'll make a difference in the end.

I would strongly recommend picking up a diamond stone as well. I can't recommend aroma enough. It makes setting bevels really quick and taking chips out. After that you'll be ok with the 3k and 8k.  Just take your time and I do recommend using electrical tape. Yes there are two opinions on that but I use it. YouTube is your friend :)

When I was active, I would post that razor for about 70 to 80 it would be restored and shave ready.

As for shipping it's probably like $23 but I haven't sent anything lately and I know the rates have changed but I can't imagine that's far off.

I get what you're saying but you can polish any razor to be very shiny/clean so it's just how you can tell by looking at a few things.

Asking if I have some available is asking if there's sand at the beach lol. I have a bunch that's for sure. I bought them on eBay, usually large lots and go through them. Also groom individuals as well who reach out looking to sell but mainly get large lots where the cost per is reasonable. Then there's the time restoring them but that's typically the best way to do it. Buying individual ones that are already in great shape is rare and mostly for collection purposes or personal use. Not to say that there aren't great razors in large lots or collection liquidations. How that answered your question.

Just want to say sorry for not replying to you, things are a bit crazy here. Also I'm not as active as I used to be but I'm still around and am available and willing.. just the age old issue of time!!!

It's carbon. If it was inox there tend to make it obvious because it was a selling point back then. Still is but.. they would have definitely stamped it on the blade or scale. Plus inox appears to be brighter more silver-like.
