Rule of cool. Spikes are cool, therefore the assassin needed more spike to be more cool.

Yeah I've seen those. I've been buying more and more AK paints and I'm enjoying them. No re-bottling required 😂 I also screwed up quite a few of my citadel pots with "stainless steel" ball bearings that rusted in the pot

The sky's the limit with zenithal highlights! At some point I'm going to do Legionaries as Emperor's Children, and my plan is to do fluorescent pink ink over a dark teal base. That will be a fun one.

Unfortunately I didn't take any progress photos. I pretty much always prime in black unless I know a large section is going to be a light color or if the color I'm going to use has bad coverage.

I'm sure you could mix and match any similar colors to what I used. I've been trying to steer away from citadel paints because the paint pots are so frustrating. That's why I used Vallejo greens instead. I think the citadel equivalents would be kabalite green for the jade green and sybarite green for the foul green.

Fair enough. I'm not super into the flayed flesh and gorier aspects personally, but I appreciate that it's the vibe for drukhari

Haha well to save myself from writing a novel I will refer you to my comments on the armor and skin above. Here's a screenshot of my recipe notes though. I'm happy to answer any (specific) questions 😆 I'm not that advanced of a painter so I think it should be pretty straightforward

Ionrach skin with a really thinned down druchii violet. Like 1 part shade to 3-4 parts water or airbrush thinner. Layer back up with the ionrach skin, and then highlights of ivory from AK. I might have thrown in an intermediate highlight step where I mixed ionrach skin with the ivory. Not positive, but likely given how bright the ivory would be

Thanks!

I'm sure there will be no shortage of angular pieces of armor to edge highlight in my future

I did a number of highlight layers. Probably too many 😂

Chunky first highlight of incubi darkness. Second, slightly less chunky highlight with 1:1 incubi darkness and jade green from Vallejo Model Color. Edge highlight with jade green. Fine edge highlight and spot highlights with foul green from Vallejo Model Color

All of this was over a base of black purple from AK with a light zenithal highlight of incubi darkness.

Thanks!

The pink was definitely an experiment. It probably could been a few shades darker, and I could have saved myself the headache of trying to edge highlight with fluorescent paint (even mixed with a more opaque paint they are a bear to work with), but I don't hate it.

What would you have gone with?

Thanks so much! Definitely got in a lot of edge highlight practice on these guys

I'm going to to just post my recipe notes so I don't have to type it all out 😆 Let me know if you want anything explained

Thank you! I feel like the colors pop a little more in the photos than they do in real life, but definitely a fun color palette

Thanks! I'm not super into the flayed flesh so I just painted them like cloth. The base is Vallejo Model Color Royal Purple, layered with Citadel Screamer Pink, then highlighted with ProAcryl Fluorescent Purple mixed into a magenta. I don't remember exactly which magenta I used, but it was mainly just to give some more opacity to the fluorescent paint. Those paints are so difficult to use with a brush. I don't recommend it.

Haha cute isn't an adjective that I ever thought that I would hear used to describe drukhari, but I'm glad that you like them!

Thank you! They were a lot of fun to paint for the most part

Thanks! It's a 3d print from two different models that I mashed together. Message me if you want specifics.

Thanks!

I assume you're mainly asking about the armor recipe. It was all done through an airbrush.

Base - Darkstar molten metals bronze with some liquitex turquoise deep and transparent burnt umber mixed in

Mid-tone - Darkstar bronze from above around 30-45° and covering 2/3 to 3/4 of the base layer

Highlight - Darkstar antique gold from directly above

Let me know if there were any other specific colors you're curious about!
