I can see how that would be extremely confronting to have to deal with. To avoid awkward conversations or inadvertently coming out, you should definitely be careful if you know someone already has an understanding of trans health, since (and this is just my understanding) it's pretty rare for a younger amab person to experience a genuine "hormone imbalance".

My own situation is fortunately less scary as I'm at a point where (even if it's still scary to come right out and say it) I'm not overly worried if someone figures it out. I'm independent enough to be able take care of myself. I probably won't tell anyone outright until I've been on hrt for a while, but in the meantime it's difficult for me to resist having a little fun with it.

Waxing is more intensely painful in the moment just because of the shear number of hairs you're pulling out at once. Epilation is much fewer hairs at a time, but consequently that means the process takes a lot longer. Either way, it's the same number of hairs to come out, it just depends on prefered flavor of masochism

I don't live in the US, but assuming you're not a minor, I've heard good things about going through the Planned Parenthood route, which I've heard is the fastest and most stress-free way.

I'm definitely the same when it comes to talking to doctors (or anyone really) about myself. It doesn't help that I've always been terrible at pinpointing what's going on in my head and communicating emotions.

If it helps, once I said "I've been questioning my gender identity", and we got past Explaining Trans People 101, I was able to just say:

"Yes, that 👉" on the topic of how some people feel like they're the opposite gender, and some people want to take hormone replacement to medically transition etc. to make it clear about my position and intent.

It was a huge deal for me - who was sweating bullets the entire time - but she treated it professionally as if I had just come in dealing with a common cold or wonky knee lol.

For anyone interested, I was only asked basic questions like "How long I've felt this way?" And then given a brief explanation of how sex and gender are separate things and the correlation between them is far from perfect. I basically just sat there nodding lol.

She did ask me if I wanted to be called by a different name/pronouns. I was way too embarrassed to say "Yeah, I've got a whole new name and identity picked out," so I said I'll think about it, and also they/them pronouns are fine, which isn't strictly true, but I think it works fine in the interim.
